All over the city of Malaga, posters featuring a picture of Rafael Nadal and the words ‘Gracias Rafa’ can be seen as he prepares to play the final event of his professional career alongside his compatriots at the Davis Cup Finals. A massive 2.6 square meter banner also adorns the exterior of the Ciudad de Malaga Athletics Stadium.
Everything seems ready as the big farewell begins for Rafael Nadal, although he continues to emphasize that it is not about his retirement. However, there is one question on everyone’s mind: Will Roger Federer be in the audience to cheer on Rafa and watch him play?
Here’s what Rafa had to say about his farewell and Roger’s potential presence: “There are no ideal endings. Ideal endings usually happen in American movies. It’s not something I worry about in that sense. My farewell will be what it will be. What I want is for the team to be competitive and for us to win the Davis Cup. My great farewell would be the joy of winning with everyone. I don’t know how to respond or not. I don’t know if I’ll play any matches. I’ve played very little in recent times. As for Roger’s presence, I don’t know if Federer will come here. He will try, but his schedule is very tight.”

Roger and Rafa famously held hands and cried when the Swiss star retired at the Laver Cup in 2022. Are you expecting Roger in Malaga? Will we witness a Fedal reunion when Spain says ‘Gracias Rafa’ this week?
