Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from the Laver Cup has certainly stirred up quite a bit of speculation, especially since there was no specific reason provided in the official statements from the Laver Cup organizers.

However, according to Spanish Eurosport, our champ is not dealing with any mental issues at the moment. Whether this also means there are no physical issues remains unknown.

“Right now, I’m not in a position to win anything. I said that I would play until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and then we would see. I am currently in a period of rest.

Mentally, I am well, with zero problems. I’m at home enjoying other things and training as much as I can each day.

These are the decisions that are being made, and it was always a possibility. I haven’t competed for a while, and there will be another player who can play better,” said Rafa.

Rafa has a 12-7 match record on the season and last competed at the Paris Olympics.

  1. Yes it certainly is a situation of buyer beware. Tournaments constantly promote the stars who are scheduled to play in order to ramp up ticket sales. Not enough tennis fans realize that there is no guarantee that those players won’t withdraw before the event for whatever reason. The Rafans who spent $$$$ only wanted to see him and have little interest in the top tens. It will be a costly lesson for them.

  2. They should leave him alone. It’s his decision. He doesn’t feel competitive enough. If he played Laver and lost matches, everyone would criticise him. He made the decision for team Europe.

    • Almost all of the comments on the L.C. Instagram say otherwise. People wanted to see Rafa regardless of whether he won or lost a match. They are even hoping against hope that he shows up just to cheer on the team despite his saying he will be watching from afar. Many are asking for refunds or a way to sell off their tickets. Nobody cares which team wins. It’s only an exhibition.

      • I know all the tickets were refunded somewhere earlier in the year – was it Indian Wells? But they got a lucky loser instead. It’s a bit cheeky to ask for a refund when there are six top ten players there.
