Rafael Nadal has met the ball girl he accidentally hit with a shot at the Australian Open. The 13-year-old Anita Birchall was hit on her face by the Spaniard’s shot during his second-round tie against Argentina’s Federico Delbonis during the first Grand Slam of the year on Thursday.
Our champ met up with Anita, and her brother and parents, the following day and posed for a selfie with the young fan.
Anita told Australian news out Channel Nine:
I just thought he would ask me if I was OK. It was really nice that he was concerned enough to ask me if I was OK and to check on me, because most players, I don’t think they would do that. He stopped the whole match and came over to see if I was OK, which was really nice.
He talked about what he did in his off time, his schedule is extremely busy. I don’t know how he made time to talk with me, and I really appreciated that. It was just an amazing moment.
I was extremely excited because I had finally gotten to meet my favourite tennis player like really close up. I can’t believe it. He’s my favourite tennis player so I never expected this at all.
