- ‘That’s what makes Rafael Nadal special’ – Gilles Simon explains source of Spaniard’s success | tennishead.net
Talking to Tennis Majors, Simon explained: “Rafa starts from what works when things aren’t going well: ‘I am going to put a lot of intensity in my forehand range on the backhand side of the other. I’m going to be around a lot by putting energy into it…’
“If his life depends on one point, he’s going to play this. That’s what’s so special about him, and then you see the construction.
“Then he’ll play longer, and sometimes he comes forward, etc.”
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev will all begin their 2021 campaigns on Day 1 of the event.
In the evening session, 2020 finalist Spain will face hosts Australia on Rod Laver Arena. Rafael Nadal and Alex de Minaur will meet again in singles after last year’s semi-finals, when Spain prevailed 3-0.
- Rafael Nadal lauds PH tennis star Alex Eala for maiden pro title | CNN Philippines
Twenty-time tennis Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was all praises for the Philippines’ Alex Eala after the 15-year-old clinched her first professional title on Sunday.
Nadal posted a photo of Eala on his own Instagram account on Monday, as he congratulated the young tennis ace for the “important moment” in her career.
“We are all very happy for you! Keep up the good work and attitude,” Nadal wrote on his Instagram page, accompanying the post with the hashtag “vamos (let’s go).”
Rafael Nadal can help Jannik Sinner win Grand slam titles, says Italian Davis Cup captain and former world number seven Corrado Barazzutti.
“Jannik Sinner will have the opportunity to train with Rafael Nadal in Australia and this experience will make him grow,” Barazzutti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He will have to deal with the pressure. Everyone expects great results soon and will have ups and downs.”

“We cannot have any complaints in these circumstances. Understandably, someone would mention our privileged position here in Adelaide, I respect that. Where’s the line of privileges? I have a different view. Here in Adelaide, our conditions have been better than most of the conditions in Melbourne. Still, some Melbourne players have larger rooms where they can perform physical activities, and others some smaller rooms where they cannot have contact with their coach or a physio.
Where is the line? It is a matter of ethics; we all have an opinion. You always look up, always complain about a disadvantageous position. We all try to help each other. Some need to make public all they do to try to help others, while some of us do it privately without publishing our calls or making propaganda with it.”

Rafa does not like to be in limelight for his generosity to various organisations. Those that are in a position to do so should not boast or band it about. Rafa has utter respect for himself in what he doesl. A glory hunter he is not…but same cannot be said for others in similar financial positions
I suppose he was upset about being criticised for not saying anything, but I hope he doesn’t start getting too involved. It’s not going to help if everyone starts arguing over social media. Just watched the Mastermind episode mentioned by Bobby Seagull, but you only get about 10 questions these days – it used to be more like 20!
That’s Rafa & I love ❤️ him for it – he is an exceptional person as well as one of the best tennis 🎾 players. Respect respect respect how can one not respect this exceptional young man 💜👵🏼💜❤️🤗🎾
Is Rafa angry? Or being sarcastic? Sure wish he hadn’t entered the fray.
I think Rafa’s saying that he tried to help behind the scenes and he’s not happy about being attacked for not previously going public with his efforts.
Yes, it very well could be BUT he’s also directing anger at “someone” by using the word “propaganda,” which is in total opposition to what he’s about. I hope by now he’s over his anger. Save that energy for tennis.
It did enter my mind if he was the impetus for the one-day delay of the ATP CUP. I received an early morning email notification of the revised start date.
Margo,
Rafa’s statements are often translated wrong. Propaganda has a word in English and that is: Advertising. The word Propaganda used while speaking in English has a different meaning, right?
With Rafa’s interviews it is usually a matter of bad translation.
Rafa👏👏👏
