Rafa pulls out of Indian Wells and Miami

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments after aggravating the leg injury that forced him out of the Australian Open in January.

“Unfortunately, the injury I suffered in Acapulco before starting the tournament is in the same area as the one suffered in Melbourne,” Rafa said on his Facebook page.“I won’t be able to play in Miami or Indian Wells as I need to recover.

“It was very painful to retire from Acapulco and it’s very hard as well to not play in the USA. I will miss you and I will do everything that’s possible to be back there in 2019.”

Get well soon, Rafa!

  1. No Rafa , no tennis of real interest but important that he recovers fully before returning to play. Wishing him all the best and a full recovery for the Clay Season

  2. Poor Rafa, he is so unlucky with injuries while Federer seems to not get any. Get well soon Rafa, the clay season awaits!

  3. I am really disappointed to know that Rafa is not playing in Indian Wells. I wish him well and speedy recovery and hope he will be ready for RG.

  4. I am relieved that Rafa is not trying to play when not fit as he has done many times in the past
It looks as if he is obeying drs orders. Also when Moya agreed to becoming his coach he said on condition that Rafa did not play when injured.
I would like to see that this enforced rest period excluded playing golf and racing all over the place appearing at functions arranged by his sponsors as happened when he was supposed to be resting after the Australian Open.
Rest seems to be to Rafa an unknown word but perhaps he is at last looking at his schedule in a wiser way. Time will tell.
Tennis loses its appeal for me when Rafa is not playing but if he really takes time out to rest it will be worth it if he is then ready for the clay season.
After the US open it is hoped that he will forego some of the Asian tournaments and be fitter for the world tour finals where he usually arrives in a state of exhaustion.
I know he says he needs constant play and lots of practice sessions to succeed but his body does not seem able to cope with this now so his mind needs to work in tune with what his body is telling him .

  5. WELL DONE RAFA. YOU HAVE FINALLY BEGUN TO LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. AS MUCH AS WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU PLAY, BUT IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT FOR YOU, TO RECOVER COMPLETELY FROM ALL YOUR INJURIES, AND COME BACK A 100% FIT. WE ALL JUST NEED A HEALTHY, RAFA.

  7. Very sad to hear this. But in a way, it’s very encouraging because we know what Rafa does when he comes back from injury. Silver linings.

Rest and recuperate Rafa, then come back strong! Tennis will definitely not be the same without Rafa that’s for sure.

  8. Cuidate y recuperate pronto…primero tu..siempre contigo y t esperamos. .

  10. Rafa, how you feel physically is the most important. Will miss you but am glad to be getting these emails to know how you are doing. Love you forever.

  11. Of course it is too soon to know when Rafa will return. I don’t think there is an updated diagnosis yet. Nevertheless, I will post one comment about the clay-court season that Rafa made before his Alicante audience.

“My objective is to compete in each tournament and try to win. The clay [season] is always highlighted and my grand objective is to return to be the best clay-court player in the world.”

Please note some outlets have him saying the best clay-courter in the “world” while others have it as “best.”

If clay is what Rafa prefers to concentrate on, that is his choice. I am for whatever keeps him injury free.

    RAFA ROCKS

  12. WoW Rafa out of Indian Wells and Miami , its so hard to not be able to watch you play but i never want to have to see you pull out of a match due to injury like against Clicic in Australia . I hope that you revover in time for the clay court season and beyond . Vamos Rafa ! We love you !

  13. Very sad but relieved. Rafa you need to really get fit and return slowly. I’ll miss you a lot but want you to be healthy and come back to winning ways.

    Take care!!!!

    🍀🍀🍀🤗🤗😘😘😘

  14. Please rest Rafa. Take time to reflect and plan for a healthy future.

Your health is more important than No. 1, than any slam, than any masters. All of these will come to you if you’re healthy.

    RAFA ROCKS
