Rafa on playing Fognini:

I know him very well and he knows me very well.

We played a few times and he’s beaten me a couple of times, too. It’s a tough match.

He’s playing well, so it will be a good challenge. I need to play my best, keep playing aggressive like I did today and hope to have my chances.

Rafa leads his FedEx ATP Head2Head with the Italian 7-3, but the pair has split their past six matches. Their previous encounter in Miami was a one-sided affair, with Nadal recording a swift 6-2, 6-2 win in their 2014 fourth-round clash.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Oh i quite like nick now vy. It just surprises me that I do as I was at Wimbledon when he beat rafa and saw that happen live and I didnt like it at all. I’d never heard of him then. His antics since have been quite awful and his behaviour has been atrocitious. At times i felt sorry for him as i was convinced he had some mental health problems. So my very recent change of heart where nick is concerned only happened in Dubai 2017 and it’s continued. So I still surprise myself when I end up backing him. I find him quite amusing now and he is very very talented. I hope he does nothing major to put me off him now but he does appear changed for the better.

    • Nice to hear about your “story” with Nick, Susie. Yeah it was painful watching Rafa losing to him at Wimbledon but it’s only Rafa’s fault that he couldn’t win that match. Nick wanted to win it just as much Rafa did, probably even more since he seems to really like big matches with the ATGs.

At least Rafa has levelled the score now. :p

The reason Nick for all his *bad behaviour* still has a lot of fans and admirers, I think is because, beside his obvious talents, he has the “honest” air abt him – what you see is what you get. Good or bad we can’t deny he’s an intriguing character :D. An even “bad boys” can actually have a heart too :p.

Overall I naturally prefer him over Sascha, though I like him as well. He’s a bit like Fed. Likeable though can be quite off-putting sometimes with his “cockiness”.

But I simply believe they’re all nice guys inside if not outside. I admire talents, hardworking and heart. And I prefer positive outlook.

Cheers for the young guys 👍. They’re the future of tennis. 🙂

    • You see Susie, I like Fed. I really do. For some reasons I’m currently not pulling for him like I normally do, but that’s a separate matter.

But it’s alway been quite hard for me to watch his matches. So much favouritism for him from all the corners of the earth. The commies are usually the worst but at least they don’t affect the playing players. The crowd though…

  2. Tomas Berdych is completely hopeless, isn’t he? He will go down in Tennis History Books as the greatest ever underachiever. Pity!

    But as always, we’d see…………………..hmmmnn

  3. Sick of seeing the crowd and commentators so biased towards Federer. If Berdych came up with a good point the commies are completely silent and the crowd cheers for his double faults. Obviously it isn’t Federers fault but it’s really starting to piss me off. Hope Kyrgios/Zverev take him out.

    • Never mind, Rafa fan, good old Nick will take him out in 3 sets!!!

Read my predictions below, it’s a collectors’ item as each and every prediction has been coming true 100% – Please read it, Rafa will reach the final, BUT………………..

      But, as always we’d see……………..hmmmmnn

    • I certainly hope the same. The commentators are there to report on a match and as such should give praise where praise is due, which means showing appreciation of good points scored by either player.
The behaviour of the crowd is no better. Cheering double faults is so ignorant

      • Berverley, totally agree with you. Cheering for mishits and DF is one of the ugliest things in sport. And that sadly happens so often when one player is facing BP or BPs.

I never really like the US crowd as they can turn incredibly rude. But the French crowd is the worst :(. The MC crowd is all right though.

  4. Susie and Maria, thanks for watching the match “with” me.

I’m so disappointed right now. At first I was okay with either of them winning since even though Fed is the heavy favourite, I thought Berdych would put up a good fight this time.

Then as the match went on and he was doing just what I thought, even fighting through injury, I felt moved and started pulling hard for him. Like you both.

In the end he didn’t make it, which was sad to watch. The crowd carried Fed. Poor guy. Really unlucky.

Now the winner of Kyrgios vs Zverev definitely needs to take Fed out.

Have some rest dear Rafa fans. See you “at” the Kyrgios vs Zverev match. 🍵

  5. Sorry Susie i added an hour onto scoreboards times as they have been an hour out ,but it looks like they are now back on track . Kyrgios midnight, Jo konta 2am and the main man 6pm.

  6. Well i hope nick or Sasha take him out in the semi. I really don’t want Roger to win miami! So who do people think will win later? Nick I hope. I still can’t believe I’m saying that. Lol

    • If Nick does win , i hope he’s learnt his lesson NO pinching Chips from random strangers, we don’t want another bout of food poisoning Lol

    • Susie, at some point in the second set the commies were already discussing Fed’s double-sunshine *this* year! HOW RUDE! The match hadn’t even ended and there’s still two ahead for their God.

Then Berdych won the second set and shut them up. I thought they would know better in the third set and it’s true they’re starting to give some credit to Berdych.

But I can’t forget and forgive the laugh at his miss at the first point 5-5 after showing some sympathy for the poor guy because he’s injured. I wonder if he hadn’t been, how ruder could they have been?

    • I don’t like this feeling while waiting for my favourite matchup Kyrgios Zverev at all. But since it should be a good match, hope I’ll feel better watching it.

Kyrgios I think is all right, Susie. Give him some time. He’s maturing. Surviving the Karlovic match he had a post match interview with Skyports, in which he said he was “enlightened” now, how his family had been supporting him and especially he was *enjoying* himself on the court. Sounds promising, don’t you think? 🙂

  7. Dam it! So disappointed for Tomas ,but you have gained much admiration. Roger new name is Roger the Dodger , gutted but as they say
    “Que Sera, Sera”

  8. OH NO! Why, Berdych, why?

Why are you so predictable! Always manages to choke at the worst possible moment after working and fighting ao hard??

  9. Yes he’s done well maria. Who’d have thought he would be neck and neck at this stage of the match. The good thing is that the commentators have also calmed down because of it!
