Two-time Acapulco champion Rafael Nadal will play Sam Querrey (world No. 40) in Saturday’s final. The American defeated sixth seed Nick Kyrgios 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.

It does not get any easier tomorrow, it will be the toughest test. I played great today, but I need to play even better tomorrow to beat Nadal.

  1. Susie trying to keep awake making beds instead of laying in them . I’m a worrier if I heard details of some crimes I’d drive myself crazy, that’s why Rafa is so refreshing you can shut out the real world and believe everyone is like him . I get his rituals too I used to be like it when I was young now things ace to be the right way up and not on its own , crazy I know. Maria (Siberia) I hope your predictions are right this time ,but could you make it two sets (haha) as by then I really will need some bloody sleep.( Excuse my language to much watching Kyrgios) won’t have long to wait now to see the outcome but as always we’re see hmm…….. Lol

    • Maria, don’t worry about the language. You have a long, long, long way to go to be even anywhere near the language uttered by Kyrgios. As an Australian I hang my head in shame at his behaviour- I don’t care how brilliant a player he is. Give me the sportsmanship of Rafa who is a brilliant player as well as being a gentleman.

  2. Well, it’s looking a bit hazy in the mirror, but all i can see now is Rafa, yes….that looks like Rafa holding something.

Yeah, Maria (England) it’s Rafa alright….Vamossssss Rafa wins in 3 sets!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, Sussie, I cant see the scores, it’s so freakin’ cloudy in the mirror, but it’s Rafa in 3. SQ takes the 1st set and then Rafa has to dig deep.

    Hmmmn……….but as always, we’ll see.

  3. I find it problematic to get up as well I have to admit but rafa’s pull is too great! Lots of black coffee Maria and maybe do some exercises about 1.30am – that’ll do the trick. Lol. Think of all the jobs you could get done by 3am. I’m used to my work now but it’s still a little hairy at times and visiting prisons so often gets a little tedious but i have to say I’ve learnt a lot – good and bad about life. I do hope that rafa doesn’t have another match like Thursday – he certainly wasn’t himself then, despite the win. That’s all I’m worried about at the mo as it all gets a bit tense.

  4. Probably sleep after Rafas’s match as once I’m in bed not sure if I’d get up again . Drooling over Gavin rossdale at the moment (hehe). I take my hat off to you I couldn’t do your job, I’m like Rafa scared of my own shadow.

  5. Oh I’m watching it Maria. What I may do is get a few hours kip and set my alarm for 2.50am – gives me 10 mins to grab a cup of coffee etc. And i will go back to bed after it’s over. How about you – it’s Sunday tomorrow and if you can – you could get a lie in perhaps if you can get to sleep after it? I’d rather watch it live being the final ‘n’ all. Oh i do love my speech marks. Yes I notice that she hasn’t got the decency to name us when she’s having a dig. If she’s not seen the matches I don’t see how she can make comment anyway but she pretends she has so much authority and knowledge – any duffer with a Google finger can get her info. But there’s no reasoning with a bafoon which is why it’s best to ignore her. However, at times it is difficult as she is just soooo obvious with it all. It’s pathetic really. It’s strange as in my every day life I deal with high risk criminals and so recognise the shallow deviousness and she’s not even clever with it. At least those of us who have a rational bone in our body know when we’re being attacked and can defend ourselves. But why are we being attacked? Just for expressing our opinions and reporting true facts. It’s bloody nuts!

  6. I did notice that Susie , she’s had a few digs one on a comment made about Andy and Nick, and when I commented that Novak had been knocked out she put in Capitals nobody cares about Novak ,like you I though it was best to ignore until she started making out that you weren’t being truthful. I thought we’d got past all this but obviously not . I’m wondering if they have a shortage of chips(fries) in NY as they seem to be all on her shoulders. Anyway on to more pleasant topics , I’m hoping to stay awake to watch ,plenty of black coffee is going to be needed, I still think Rafa can win this , he’s never lost against him so let’s hope the winning streak continues. Can’t wait for Indian Wells tournament on Thursday , really looking forward to seeing him in the doubles at a more decent hour I hope. Are you Watching the final Susie or recording?

  7. I decided to ignore the ‘know it all of nothing’ Maria as I was watching from the 1st ball being hit and all the front rows going back at least 10 to 15 rows had noone sitting in them and I was surprised. But I also qualified what I said by adding that the spectators would no doubt filter in throughout the match. Is she saying that i’m a liar liar with my hotpants being on fire? I saw what i saw. Best to ignore the snide comments, as I recall recently she said that it was well known toni doesn’t like flying, just after you commented what a surprise it was to you. Immaturity is best ignored. I’m crossing fingers for rafa tonight as I don’t think it’s going to be a walk in the park.

  8. This is such a great site ,it’s just a shame somebody has to keep having a dig.Anyone who saw the match would know that Susie was absolutely right at the start there were loads of empty seats which gradually filled up during the match but even at the end plenty of seats were still available.

  9. Thanks for clarifying that. For this tournament, a day or so ago, some member made it seem as if Rafa’s match was not well attended. I thought that was strange but decided to ignore rather than comment about it.

As far as I am concerned, I know how thrilled the director et al. were to have our 14-time grand slam champ at the tourney.

Rafa’s two wins at this tourney were played on clay and as you stated earlier the court is now a hard surface; Raffa has won hardware from all surfaces.

  10. Rafa it’s down to you now to bring it home for Spain🇪🇸. SAM-I-AM has never beaten you and tomorrow’s outcome in the final will be no different.10 month’s since your last tournament win but that’s all about to change , tomorrow your dry spell will come to an end and your hands (or teeth ) will be firmly round that trophy🏆 . As you have said before you play every point as though your life depends on it, and that is what you need to do when you walk out onto the court in the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time).Good luck Rafa and well done Andy on your win in Dubai.

  11. Margo, When Rafa’s matches started at 6pm their time, the stands were not filled but they did as he was playing. It actually annoyed Rafa a bit because of the commotion. They were full by the time he finished. The tournament was sold out even before Novak took a wild card. Novak, however, was very popular there and his practices were very popular, as were Rafa’s. I have been really impressed with the entire tournament.

  12. Rafa good luck this year is your .vamosssssssssssssssss your fans for ever love 🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄❤️

  13. I still do not understand what happened on Thursday night, but Rafa was amazing last night. I was not nervous from the first serve on. Sam is playing well and has nothing to lose by going all out tonight. I am so hoping the “good” Rafa shows up tonight.

    • So sorry, va4favre. I meant to comment much earlier this morning but got involved with paper work, etc. I read that Rafa was questioned about his Thursday performance. He said that you have not so good days. I forgot his exact words so that was a paraphrase.
About the bandage being removed, he felt it wasn’t need. [Carlos may have had him wear it, LOL. If true, love that Carlos is making Rafa stick to his “take care of body first,” orders.

      RAFA ROCKS

      • Hi Margo, I appreciated Rafa’s candor and that he did not make any excuses. I guess I was stunned at how badly he played especially in the first set. I know that we as fans expect perfection all of the time and that is obviously not possible.

      • Reading your response about Rafa’s honesty, it did bring to mind Rafa’s response to a question about his drop to number 10, about 1.5 years ago. You will probably remember it too. He said something akin to, “Well, it’s not like I am number 100.” I couldn’t stop laughing and saying, “You tell them Rafa.”

He has set the bar so high for himself that any deviation from his norm sets the media [and some fans who are no longer here] into fits of apoplexy.

Is it my imagination that Rafa is making himself more available to the media? Hearing directly from Rafa assures me that there won’t be any contradictions because Rafa will control the narrative. As Rafa admitted, his Uncke Toni was guilty of contradicting himself; something Rafa would be loathe to repeat.

        RAFA ROCKS

  14. Rafa, please don’t beat up too badly on Sam, my American compatriot.

BEST OF TENNIS TO YOU RAFA!!!!

    RAFA ROCKS

  15. bonne chance à rafa et je lui souhaite de tt coeur cette victoire il le mérite notre champion 👑👑👑👑👑👑vamos rafa👍👍👌❤❤❤

    • Because it’s not being held on Sunday?

The main-draw days appear to have been shortened by one day.

Rafa wants to play golf on Sunday after he lifts the trophy today?

Google doesn’t appear to supply an answer.

      RAFA ROCKS

    • I think it is because Indian Wells is starting next week. The Dubai tournament also ends on Saturday, but that is usual for the Middle East. The Acapulco tournament director said he wanted it to be as much as possible a warm up for IW including changing to hard courts. Ending on Saturday is another accommodation for the players. Very smart! Acapulco has been amazing and it was sold out early.

      • I am surprised that you read tickets were sold out. Another member stated that Rafa’s match was not well attended, “a lot of empty seats?” I was thinking ticket prices could be a factor. The tournament director was thrilled that Raonic, Rafa and Nole would be at the tournament, along with the other high level players.

Thanks for the Saturday-held final-match comment. I thought the Mexican Open players were being booted because the space was needed for another event. Was just having fun. I forgot to add the above explanation.

        RAFA ROCKS

      • va4favra, my response to yours was register at 7:16pm but instead of under your comment it is located above it.

RAFA ROCKS BECAUSE HE IS ALSO AN ALL-TERRAIN MASTER

  16. Good luck, Rafa! Just be confident and aggressive while keeping a cool head then you’re good to go for the first of hopefully many HC titles after more than 3yrs. You can do it! Vamos! 🍀🎾💪🏻🏆
