- Nadal Breezes By Simon; Will Face Raonic In Quarters (via Tennis Now)
“Today I think I played a solid match against a tough opponent like Simon that is not easy tactically how to play,” Nadal said. “Tactically I think I played a very positive match. In general, I played solid. Only two bad games with my serve I played bad. Made few mistakes, especially with the 1-0; and then 5-2, 30-Love, 30-15, one mistake, unbelievable mistake. But for the rest I played solid.”
- Nadal Returns To Indian Wells Quarterfinals (via BNP Paribas Open)
In the quarterfinal, Nadal is wary facing Raonic’s big serve, even though he’s won all five of their previous meetings. “Obviously he’s an opponent that you don’t want to play against because he’s an opponent that you play under a lot of pressure (for) everything, every point,” Nadal said. “Every point has a lot of value. You cannot lose your concentration for one moment with your serve. “I know I need to be at 100 percent to have any chance, and that I’m going to try.”
- Nadal Defeats Simon For Ninth Indian Wells Qf Berth (via ATP World Tour)
Australian Open champions Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini took out Spaniards Nadal and Pablo Carreno Busta 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 on Wednesday night to advance to the Indian Wells semi-finals.
Rafael Nadal, currently the world’s number three tennis player, has given his opinion on the situation surrounding Gala León just a few hours after Spain’s Royal Tennis Federation (RFET) requested an audience with the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, “because of the attempt by Miguel Cardenal – president of Spain’s Superior Sports Council (CSD) – to oust the female captain of the Davis Cup team”. “Things happen how they happen”, said Nadal. “The truth is that in sport you need people that understand sport, people who know the score. It’s as if you put me in charge of a hospital. I don’t know anything about medicine, and I don’t know how things work“, he explained.
“En el deporte debe estar la gente que entiende. Es como si a mí me ponen a dirigir un hospital. Yo no sé de medicina y no sé cómo funcionan las cosas”, argumenta el número tres del mundo, cuyo mensaje recoge la opinión del grueso de los jugadores seleccionables.

There has been plenty of reaction from players to the 15-year-ban received by Wayne Odesnik for a second doping violation. … Rafael Nadal said he doesn’t know Odesnik and hasn’t read about the situation, but, “obviously when that happens twice, you don’t deserve to be on the tour.”
