World No. 3 Rafael Nadal got his season underway with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Andy Murray in the semi-finals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi. Our champ was making his first appearance since late October and this was only his eighth match in six months.
Rafael Nadal: “It was the first match at a competitive level after a long time for me. In the beginning I played pretty badly with my backhand, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I had no rhythm, was a lot of times out of the position but 6-2, 6-0 is a bit too much, as I had a lot of chances to get a closer result. Anyway. It’s a perfect start here competing with the top players. Matches like this will help me to improve.” (via Tennis TourTalk)
