PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal defeats Juan Monaco to reach R3 at Madrid Open

In his 2014 debut match at the Caja Magica, Rafael Nadal defeated his longtime buddy Juan Monaco 6-1, 6-0 to reach the third round at the Mutua Madrid Open. The defending champion will next play Jarkko Nieminen.

With this victory, Rafa has taken sole ownership of 11th place on the Open Era match wins list. With a career mark of 684-134, the world No. 1 has passed  Arthur Ashe (683-225) in wins. His next milestone is the No. 10 spot on the list, which is occupied by Boris Becker at 713 match wins.
