It just wasn’t Rafael Nadal’s day as he suffered a straight-sets defeat to Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, 4-6, 4-6, on home soil in Malaga. However, one thing remains unchanged: Rafa’s legendary fighting spirit is as fierce as ever. While the body and mind may eventually slow, Nadal’s heart continues to burn with the same intensity it always has. A passionate crowd of 11,500 at the José María Martín Carpena arena rallied behind him, creating an electric atmosphere.
All we can say is Gracias Rafa! We will always be proud of you, and being your fan is a privilege.

Now, the responsibility shifts to Carlos Alcaraz, who must face Tallon Griekspoor and secure a win for Spain. A victory in doubles is also crucial—Alcaraz will team up with Marcel Granollers, while van de Zandschulp partners the retiring Wesley Koolhof for the Netherlands. If Spain triumphs, there’s a chance we could see Nadal back in action this week. That’s what everyone is hoping for! ¡Vamos España!

Very strange to take such a risk by the Spanish coach to not play his two best players. Bautista Agut would have had a much better chance against Botic. Sad these privileges they give to players on the basis of results from over 2.5 years ago. Same at the Olympics. Rafa’s primadonna behavior, overstepping to get the spots in singles and doubles, hurts his legacy. Sad for the higher ranked Spanish players that were pushed aside. He took opportunities away from them for another egotrip.
So…RAFA won’t be playing the 1st set of doubles with Carlos?? I unfortunately missed his singles Match😥😪😭 not sure…if you can respond..but any answer is very appreciated.☺💪💪💪💪
From what the commentators are saying, Rafa’s more or less said that he won’t play singles in the semis if Spain get through, so we’ve seen his last singles match :-(.
