A Warm Welcome for Rafael Nadal in Malaga

As we count down the days to Rafael Nadal’s farewell at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, the 22-time Grand Slam champion arrived in the city this Thursday, sporting his trademark ‘Vamos!’ shirt. He was warmly welcomed by his former teammate and current Davis Cup tournament director Feliciano Lopez, as well as Spanish Davis Cup captain David Ferrer.

Rafa held his first practice session at the Palacio de Deportes Martín Carpena, training alongside his long-time coach, Carlos Moya.

Our champ also took the opportunity to connect with fans, signing autographs and posing for photos with those who had staked out the perfect spot to greet him.

Over the next few days, Rafa will continue his preparations, and soon we’ll know if he’ll be playing singles or doubles. The big moment comes on Tuesday, as Spain takes on the Netherlands for a place in the semifinals.

Vamos Rafa, vamos España!

  1. I am hopeful and optimistic that Rafa plays well and has a great retirement celebration. I am even more wishful that Rafa does so well that Rafa delays retirement for one more year! 🙂
