In a recent interview with Marca, Carlos Alcaraz shared thoughts about his meeting with Rafael Nadal at the ‘Six Kings Slam’ exhibition in Riyadh. When asked if he tried to convince Rafa to reconsider his decision to retire, Carlos revealed that he hadn’t attempted to change our champ’s mind, though he wished he could have. He explained:

“No, I honestly didn’t. I wish I could have. I know the decision is more than made. I asked him if it was a tough day when he announced the retirement, if it was a difficult decision to make. He told me yes, but it was a well-thought-out decision—these decisions aren’t taken lightly. It was thought over with his family, his team, based on his feelings. If someone had told me I had any chance of convincing him to continue, I would have tried because I don’t want to see him off the courts just yet.”

Carlos also shared his hopes for the upcoming Davis Cup Final 8, where he will join forces with Rafa to secure another title for Spain.

“I want to go in without any emotional expectations. We want to win the title for Spain and also for Rafa, to make sure his last tournament is as it should be.”

Spain’s first opponent will be the Netherlands in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 19. The Knockout Stage of the 2024 Davis Cup will run from November 19-24. The ATP event takes place in Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga.
