Rafael Nadal is set to make his return to the grand-slam tennis scene at the 2024 Australian Open, as confirmed by Craig Tiley, the director of the tournament.

The 37-year-old tennis legend has been absent from the court since sustaining a hip flexor injury during his second-round match against Mackenzie McDonald in the 2023 Melbourne edition.

In an exclusive interview on the Australian morning show “The Today Show,” Tennis Australia’s CEO, Craig Tiley, shared the exciting news: “We are thrilled to announce that Rafa will be making his comeback. After a year away from the game, he has personally confirmed his return, and we’re eagerly looking forward to welcoming back the 2022 champion. It’s truly remarkable.”

Rafa posted on Instagram: “As you can see I am practising every day and working hard to come back as soon as possible. I appreciate the vote of confidence from the Australian Open.”

  1. Rafa’s representatives are all throwing cold water on the idea that Rafa going to Australia is a done deal. Rafa himself only said “thanks for the vote of confidence.” I don’t think Rafa will travel all that way unless he is sure about his level of play and personally I will not be discouraged if he decides he needs more time. Assuming his health is good he still needs time to regain his competitive level. Take your time Rafa!

    • Yeah I noticed the same thing – that Rafa didn’t confirm that he would be participating in the Aussie Grand Slam. It’s true I think Rafa will only want to go if he thinks he is truly competitive and can go far in the tournament. I’ll guess we’ll see what happens.

    • Yeah I noticed the same thing, that he didn’t confirm that he would be participating in the Australian Open. I also agree that Rafa will only go if he thinks he is competitive and can make a good run in the tournament. It’s still months away, so I guess time will tell. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does some smaller tournaments instead if he feels like his form isn’t there yet in January 2024.
