In the early hours of Saturday morning, after a joint press conference with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal told Spanish reporters at London’s O2 Arena he needed to return home.
“I’m not good, I’m not good,” Nadal said. “The truth is these have been difficult weeks in that sense. Few, very few hours of sleep, a bit of stress in general, slightly more difficult situations than usual at home.
“As a result, well, I’ve had to deal with all that, which is a different pressure to the one you’re used to in your professional life. But, well, luckily everything is good and we are much more calm. And in that sense, I’ve been able to come here, which for me was the most important thing.”
Rafa has struggled with an abdominal injury for much of the summer. The pain caused him to pull out before his semifinal at Wimbledon and he then suffered more problems with it after losing in the fourth round of the US Open.

Now that this weekend has come to an end we wish you all the best for the next chapter in your and Mery’s lives – just put this behind you even if you only play again next year make sure you have recovered from your injury which we hope is not too bad.

Praying for Rafa. Seems like he just needs a break from the chaos and some down time to rest his head and body. I’m sure he wants to be with his wife and family. Everyone should have a friend like Rafa. He has more than enough worries and stresses of his own right now, but he still turned up to support his friend Roger – and it was more than just playing a match. I don’t think he would have come to London otherwise. It sounds like he thought about staying on at LC, in the Spanish part of the presser he spoke of going back to the hotel to think about what to do, that there was a personal conflict. I’m glad he decided he’d done enough. I hope everything goes well for him, for Mery and their child.
Rafa is the most genuine and authentic friend and supporter that one can have. That’s why we admire him more than any other athlete or sportsman. You can see the genuinely strong and true bond and friendship that Rafa and Federer share. Love it! 🙂

TennisWorld.com reports, without naming a source, that Rafa still has problems with the ab. I thought he played the match rather well and gave Roger the chance to serve for the match. He wanted to win the match for Roger and did all that he could.
First things first, Rafa wants to be there for Mery.
Rafa told Spanish media that he broke his abs in New York again. What a bad luck, he really needs time to get better and this season is probably over.
