Daniil Medvedev has become the world No. 1 men’s player for a second time after Novak Djokovic dropped to No. 3 in the ATP rankings. Djokovic has lost the 2,000 points from last year’s French Open win, and now boasts a tally of 6,770 to place him behind Medvedev (7,950) and Alexander Zverev (7,075).

The current ATP rankings and point scores are as follows:

1. Daniil Medvedev (RUS) 7950

2. Alexander Zverev (GER) 7075

3. Novak Djokovic (SRB) 6770

4. Rafael Nadal (ESP) 6525

5. Casper Ruud (NOR) 5050

6. Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) 4945

7. Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) 4893

8. Andrey Rublev (RUS) 4125

9. Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) 3895

10. Matteo Berrettini (ITA) 3570

It is the first time since 2003 that none of the big 3 Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are among the top two in the rankings. Back to the week of November 10, 2003, American Andy Roddick held the No 1 position while Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero was ranked No 2. Federer was ranked No 3 that week while Rafa was No 47 and Djokovic was No 680.

The third Grand Slam of the year has been stripped of ranking points, meaning Novak Djokovic will lose another 2,000 points on July 11 – which could place him around eighth going by current points.

  1. Looking at the pictures in Hola, either Mery’s suddenly put on a lot of weight, which seems unlikely, or there’s definitely a baby on the way. I hope so much that it’s true. We’ve seen how good they are with his little cousins and other children: they will be wonderful parents, and will have a lot of other doting relatives as well.

  2. A baby on the way! Great news! So happy for Rafa and Maria. I had a feeling that this for a while and it explains why Rafa has looked so happy lately and why Maria has been wearing a mask out in the crowds.

  3. Rafa Nadal is gonno be Papa Nadal 🎉🎉🎉😂 Congratulations king and his queen and to the whole Nadal family and my fellow Rafa fans.

  4. There is a picture of Rafa, his wife and some friends. Their faces are beaming with happiness. I hope to hear some fantastic news.

    • There are photos in today’s Hola showing beautiful Maria in her swimsuit with her belly bump. Congratulations to them. This is thrilling news. Excited to hear whether it’s a niño or a niña!

      • Heya Pauline, I didn’t see the Hola! picture. It was the one in the Majorca Daily showing Rafa, Mary and some friends on his boat. That’s the picture I alluded to in my earlier post. They are all beaming smiles and I thought Rafa could have some great news. The article did mention the “P” word but I am still waiting for word from Rafa. Now all the other news outlets are saying the same thing. Today the Majorca Bulletin says “confirmed.”

      • Hi Pauline and Margo,

Such awesome news!!!😊 Congratulations to Maria and Rafa🎉🎊🥳 their family is about to get even cuter🥰 I am sure our champ and his lovely wife are going to be an amazing parent!

      • Oops I meant to say going to be “amazing parents” earlier, my bad.

    • Margo and Mimi,
We are all early birds especially you Mimi on the west coast! It’s a pity that the news didn’t come first from Rafa & Maria but he accepted fans congratulations today after his practice. Hoping they will enjoy this special time in their lives.💝

      • Hi Pauline,

Rafa confirmed the terrific news from fans…thanks, Pauline🙏

Still recovering from my trip☺️ I couldn’t go back to sleep now, too excited.😆

  5. Ooh Rafaël Nadal , I like you as a tennisplayer, and your clothing style. And the way you move I have been to one off your matches in the Ashe Stadium in New York. My name is Magalie Burke and Iam a fan

  6. Owl Cat asked if there is any news of Rafa’s practice Monday on grass. The only news I could find was from TennisWorldUSA.com which said that Rafa did practice on Monday, apparently a closed practice. The source is said to be Jose Moron.

I have seen nothing about Tuesday or so far today. Would like to know more! Perhaps JK in the UK has more information?

  7. It is hard to believe with all that Rafa has accomplished this year, that he is ranked 4th behind Djokovic. Rally
too much to believe. Rafa should be at least # 2. Cannot figure this out.

    • Pamela, I answered your post but it went to Helen [June 14, @4:02AM] instead of to you. My error.

  8. While searching for words from Rafa on Wimby, I came across an article in which took me by surprise. Andy Murray claimed “I think he [Rafa] is playing to try to break records and win the big events. Of course you have to love the sport and be willing to play through some pain when you become an older athlete, but I think it’s easier to play through pain when you’re competing for major titles.”

Andy, Rafa has had foot pain since his late teens. His pain has been a lifelong odyssey. How can you believe Rafa is playing through pain in his older years just to win the premier titles: SLAMS.

Not only that, my understanding of what motivates Rafa is that he LOVES competing if he can do it at a high level.

    He LOVES playing tennis.

Another motivating factor for Rafa is the adulation/admiration he receives from fans; colleagues, pundits, kids, THE WORLD OF SPORTS.

Another factor is the belief in himself, to strive to improve, to do better. Yet for him, doubts push him to keep trying. For those who claimed he was only good on clay I hope they realize how wrong they were; 4 US Opens, 2 Australian Opens, and 2 Wimbys.

And all through this, Rafa has stayed grounded and respectful of everyone who plays against him.

I don’t need to remind fans what Rafa has accomplished. I just had to say something about Andy’s “opinion.”

      • I dunno Mimi, maybe he’s trying to make it the “Big Four” again. OK…OK…my mean side is trying to take over. Gotta grab one of Rafa’ s racquets to chase her away.

      • OMG Mimi…not YOU??? What is this world coming to? 🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣😱😉

  9. None of the Big 3 in the Top 2 rankings. That was bound to happen, sooner or later.
Anyway Rafa is No 1 in my book. That’s it. Nuff said.
Now I wanna see if he can go for the Calendar Slam, already has AO and RG. So why not go for it?

Rafa is the GOAT. VAMOS Rafa

    • Helen, Rafa is #1 in the Race to Turin which is actually a better indicator of how well a player is doing in the current season, not last years season. The ATP is always behind.

If Rafa plays Wimby I feel he has a good chance of winning. Let’s see.

Belarusian and Russian players will be permitted to play at the US Open but not under their flags. Unvaccinated players will not be able to enter the US to play unless the rules are changed/dropped. I am wondering what story the Serb will come up with.

  10. Does anyone know how Rafa’s practice session went on grass today? Uncle Toni said Rafa was going to test his foot out today after the 1st procedure

  11. Not surprising since Rafa was not playing for most of last year post RG. Federer has been out for a year or more following his last knee surgery. Djokovic lost in US Open ’21 final, did not play AO this year, had to miss IW and Miami, lost early in Dubai and lost in the RG quarters, although he won Rome.

Wimbledon points from last year will drop in a month or so. The rankings will look very different then.

    • The draw for a Wimbledon will be interesting. We know that Medvedev, Sascha and Rublev will not be in the draw. Nole and Rafa will be the 1 and 2 seeds.

I will be looking to see which side of the draw young Carlos will fall. He is world number 7 and seed number 5. Also Berrentini (sp?) , World number 10 and seed number 7.

I am discounting Stefano’s chances because he has fallen off so much lately but maybe he will be stepping it up. He will likely be the fourth seed.

Look how far Ruud has come. World number 5 and likely Wimbledon seed number 3!

  12. Es el jugador de tenis más completo, en todos los flancos!!!… Mentalmente súper brillante!!!… Felicitaciones Rafa, has dado lo mejor y más vistoso , en las canchas!!!… Gracias, es un placer verte!!!… ♥️👏👏👏👏🇦🇷🇦🇷

  13. Rafa best player any day any year any decade any century…Vamos GOAT. 🇪🇦🇪🇦☘☘🇪🇦🇪🇦☘☘

    • Absolutely correct. Now we’ll see if he can go for the Calendar Slam this year.
I want him to go for it. I’m not that greedy. Hehe. lol.
