Rafael Nadal moves up in ATP rankings despite loss to Taylor Fritz

The ATP rankings for March 21, 2022 are out, and Rafael Nadal is again on the move.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion returned to the top three in the ATP rankings for the first time since August 2021 after reaching the Indian Wells final.

Despite the fact that the last tournament he played was in Dubai, Novak Djokovic is back to the No. 1 spot in the rankings – thanks to the victory of Gael Monfils over Daniil Medvedev in the 3rd round of Indian Wells.

Roger Federer, who has barely played in the last two years, is ranked No. 26, but it is unclear when he will play again.

The top 10 for the week of March 21, 2022 are as follows:

  1. Novak Djokovic (+1)
  2. Daniil Medvedev (-1)
  3. Rafael Nadal (+1)
  4. Alexander Zverev (-1)
  5. Stefanos Tsitsipas
  6. Matteo Berrettini
  7. Andey Rublev
  8. Casper Ruud
  9. Felix Auger Aliassime
  10. Hubert Hurkaz (+1)

Race to Turin: In the 52 week rankings, the year to date rankings, Rafa is No. 1 with 3,350 points.

Vamos Rafa!

  1. Whatever it takes for Rafa to get well and ready for Roland Garros is what needs to be done and I believe he will do it but he needs to be in competitive tennis condition to win the tournament . Hopefully , he makes it to Rome .

  2. What a magnificent player, the pain must have been debilitating.A wonderful sportsman.Recover well and return to glory👏👏😘

  3. Hopefully he’ll be OK for Rome and Paris, but this is so upsetting and frustrating – all that time out with the foot problem, then Covid and now this. It’s distressing to hear him say that he’s “down and sad”. I’m sad too.

  4. Rafa’s biggest rival is not Roger or Novak , it’s his own body ! Another injury and the progress is derailed again ! God I hope he recovers quickly

  5. Nadal is out for 6 weeks due to his myocarditis which is in his case formally called a rib injury because God forbid the truth comes out. Misses all clay tournaments before RG.

    • WOW! Those physio squeezes would certainly not have helped matters.

Now our champ shall rest pretty good and this may be a blessing in disguise.

  6. Breaking news

Nadal has being diagnosed with rib stress fracturen. Hé will be out for 4 to 6 weeks which means no monte carlo and barcelona

  7. Vamos Rafa…u will always be No. 1 for me…we all know u cld hv been d champ in India Wells T…if it was bcoz of yr current health cobdition. Rest well…get healed…take care

    • TRUE ! Rafa was ONLY beaten because of his injured body…..Yet he fights to the end and never give up. Been watching tennis for over 50 years and Rafa is the most spectacular entertaining humble tennis player in the world I have ever seen… Definately THE GOAT FOREVER! Vamos Rafa !!!!

  8. I count on all of you for the latest news about Rafa. I trust that someone will post as soon as there is word about the cause of Rafa’s breathing problem during the match. Get well Rafa!

  9. Congratulations #3 ranking, Rafael Nadal. Recover well-all the best👏👍💪🤛🍀🎾❤️

  10. This was a tough tournament for Rafa as every match seemed to have epic struggles and challenges. As great as he performed, there was too much physical and mental stress, especially in that Alcaraz match. The Final was difficult to watch.
I hope we get to hear updates on his injuries soon and that they are minor in nature. We need him to be 100% healthy for his revenge at Roland Garros! We feel so much pressure simply watching Rafa…I can’t imagine what it’s like BEING Rafa!

  11. Heartbroken for Rafa as the chest injury in addition to his foot problem hampered him very much. Congrats to Fritz but he sure got lucky.
Great see Rafa move up to 3 in the rankings, now to get his injury diagnosed, treated and get his foot attended to,
Always gracious and dignified in success or defeat. 🇪🇸⭐️👏👏

  12. Rafa has already proved to us that he is the GOAT of tennis. Even if he lost IW finals, I’m happy he’s moved up in the ranking to the top 3. Clearly he was struggling with his foot and had chest problems.
He can now rest, put feet up and be ready for the clay season, with the more important chasing his 14th FO title and 22GS.
Let’s all wish him a speedy recovery.
Rafa is the best, and that is a fact.
VAMOS RAFA. No 1 to us all.
