Rafael Nadal advanced to the last eight at the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday after a straight sets win over the 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov. He needed just 55 minutes to score a 6-1, 6-1 victory and extend his Head2Head dominance over the Bulgarian to 14-1.
Rafa will face either Andrey Rublev or compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in the last eight. He is undefeated against both men in his career, 2-0 over Rublev and 3-0 over Bautista Agut.
After the match, Rafa said:
“I am sorry for him. He played a bad match. That is the truth.
He made a lot of mistakes. I was there. I was doing the right thing, but it is true that today was more his fault than my good tennis.”
“I think I did the right preparation. I felt ready for action again. I am excited to play here in one of my favourite tournaments, without a doubt.
I am happy to enjoy the competition again, to enjoy the Tour. In Mallorca, I had some good practices. Let’s see. Tomorrow [will be] another tough match. I hope to be ready for it.”

Apparently Grigor has been losing sleep due to a tooth ache. The commentators on Tennis Channel speculated that he had some sort of physical problem.No one guessed that it might be a tooth.
Rafa’s next opponent is Rublev. He has been a top five hard court player since the U. S. Open. I’m confident though that Rafa will take care of him. Rafa beat him in straight sets in London plus this is a clay tournament.
BTW Rafa is quoted as saying that he will have the vaccine as soon as he is eligible. He correctly says it is the responsible thing to do. Rafa may have a chance for the shot as part of the Spanish Olympic team
FYI- according to Genny SS who lives in Spain athletes for now are not a priority. Other countries such as Romania have done so for their Olympians. We saw Simona getting her vax. It’s only 99 days away so if it goes ahead we will see.

Hoping Rafa can stay on course and win this tournament. I was surprised at how quickly he demolished Grigor and doubt the rest of the field will pose a threat.

It transpired that Grigor has an infection in a tooth and hasn’t been sleeping. There had to be something wrong. Rafa is a much better player but Grigor is not that poor.
