Claire Kang, who was born in Chengdu, China and now lives in Melbourne made her way to Spain and Rafael Nadal’s academy on the island of Mallorca. Thanks to her, our champ now owns a cute panda to match his 2019 US Open outfit.
Here’s what she posted on Twitter:
I was born in Chengdu-Sichuan, the only province in the entire world that panda lives. I prepared this ‘panda in Rafa US Open 19 night session outfit’ gift for Rafa. He brightened up instantly, held it in the arm tightly and showed it to his team. He then carried it all the way to his car.
Four hours later, after giving Rafa the gift, we went back to the academy and entered the basement car park. The headlight disturbed a couple who were holding each other and intimately talking. The headlight made them turn their heads. Mr and Mrs Nadal right there, with Maria holding my panda gift.

As for these fans giving a panda present, good for them but when I was there in the Aca in Oct they did not like us following him to the car and to leave him alone once he had signed and photos 😕 I have already saïd that he spends all of 5 mins between coming out of the court , stopping for fans and getting in the car and that was in the outside car park. 😐 The basement car park, the Spanish attendant told me was strictly for the staff and the public where not allowed down there. It seems to me that all fans are not being treated equally. 😡 and as for certain fans having their photos shown on our Fan Club site this is something new as we were always told It is not poss as we are too many to fit in 😞 Any comment from you others ? Not before 7am Pacific time.
Dallas, Rafa vs Tsitsipas is scheduled for 7pm local time but he will play after Djokovic vs Khachanov scheduled for 5pm local time.
You can always check with Scoreboard or Flashscore to get any delay[s] in Rafa’s schedule.
