Rafael Nadal: We can’t create controversies every single day [VIDEO]

During today’s presser Rafael Nadal was asked if his match deserved its Centre Court billing, and whether Wimbledon’s most prestigious court ought instead to have hosted the women’s world No. 1, Ashleigh Barty, who lost in three sets to Alison Riske.

Here’s what our champ had to say:

My answer is not no or yes. My answer is they make a decision.

You are putting Ashleigh Barty in front of me. For me, both decisions are good.

In the world of tennis today, honestly, my feeling is today I am little bit more than Ashleigh Barty, even if Ashleigh Barty is the first player of the world and she already won in the French Open and she is playing unbelievable good.

But we can’t create polemics every single day about decisions that they have to take.

  1. Rafa gave the right answer which reporters were not expecting 🤣🤣🤣

  2. Rafa must hold serve and limit break opportunities . Querry is serving off the charts and winning short points consistently . He looks very tough . Rafa must make Querry fight for his service holds ! Vamos !

  3. I read a lot of comments on Twitter that Rafa answer was very arrogant with disrespect to women and sexist. That’s absolutely not fair and I am sick and tired of all this.
Rafa told them the truth, like it or not,do not make story of nothing

  5. Full of common sense, Rafa had an elegant way to send the message: stop the s……like it or not you have to respect the authorities. If not it would be chaotic. Once again Rafa showed the kind of human being he is.

    • Another positive Press Conference 😀 After an easy win he was quite relaxed and seeing the next match, the Américains like their hard courts but anything can happen 😯 Fiona in Paris

  6. Why in the world was Rottenberg asking Rafa about this? Does he think Rafa sets the Wimbly OOP?

Of the six matches on Centre and Court 1 five featured past Wimbledon multiiple champions. The other was between Halep (rank 7 and a slam champ) and the newcomer Gauff who made a big splash by getting to the 4th round. Three were women’s matches and three men’s. Seems as reasonable to me as anything else Wimbly does.

  7. i am nervous about the querry match. Sam querry has beaten djokovic in 2016 and has beaten nadal in acapulco a hard hitter with a strong serve that takes the ball early something that nadal doesnt like i hope he succeed

  8. Such a smart and diplomatic response, Rafael Nadal. All the best in the next round👏💪👍🤛🍀❤️

  9. Well said Rafa! I know the press are always looking for a story, but I’m so sick of them trying to push players into making controversial remarks: it’s not fair.

  10. Rest well and then get ready for S. Querrey in the quarterfinals Rafa💪🍀
