    Llegará un día en que, de manera natural e inevitable, mi sobrino no remontará el vuelo. Llegará el día en que el físico ya no le responderá al más alto nivel o los rivales más jóvenes le apartarán de la competición. Cuando eso ocurra Rafael podrá repetir la frase que me dijo aquel día en que intenté aleccionarle con el testimonio de los tenistas que no habían perseverado lo suficiente.

    La aseveración que me hizo fue la siguiente: “Toni, no creo que a mí me pase eso. El día que yo me retire de este deporte, lo haré con la tranquilidad de haber hecho todo lo que ha estado al alcance de mi mano”.
