Rafa has the edge over the friend and fellow countryman Pablo, with a 3-0 head-to-head record.

Pablo on playing Rafa:

It is really difficult, because Rafa is maybe the best player on this surface in history, and he’s playing really well. But I will try. I’m playing well, with a lot of confidence.

  • Rafa is bidding to become the first man in the Open Era to reach 10 semifinals in Paris
  • If he defeats Carreno Busta, Rafa will become just the 5th man in the Open
Era to reach 10 semifinals at a single Grand Slam event
  • By reaching the quarterfinals, Rafa and Carreno Busta have guaranteed Spanish representation in the semifinals here for the first time since 2014 when Rafa went on to win his 9th Roland Garros title.
  • Rafa has a 13-0 win-loss record against his fellow Spanish players at Roland Garros and a 20-3 win-loss record against Spaniards at the Grand Slams overall. His only defeats to Spanish players at the majors came
against David Ferrer at both the 2007 US Open and the 2011 Australian Open, and Fernando Verdasco at the 2016 Australian Open.
  • Rafa is looking to record his 22nd clay court match-win of the season, while Carreno Busta is aiming for his 21st.
  • Rafa has not lost a clay court match to a player ranked as low as No. 21 today’s opponent since falling No. 45 Pablo Cuevas in the semifinals at 2016 Rio de Janeiro.
  • Rafa and Carreno Busta won a doubles title together at 2016 Beijing, defeating Jack Sock/Bernard Tomic in the final.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Best of luck to Rafa in the delayed qtrfinals match against Pablo. What a brutal weather
day today for the women to play their matches. I felt so badly for all of them!

Hopefully the weather will be conducive to uninterrupted competition all day long on Wed.
Of course I am rooting for Rafa but I really do enjoy watching Pablo play. He has greatly improved and also has a wonderful disposition for the sport. I look forward to the match!

  2. Rafa is playing first tomorrow on Chatrier at 11 am local time. It is 5am EDT. Novak is playing Thiem on Lenglen st the same time. I like PCB a lot, but will not be rooting for him tomorrow, of course.

  3. It’s official. Today’s male singles have been postponed until mañana. Now I can do some housework.

    RAFA ROCKS

  4. Men’s quarter finals will not be played today but tomorrow with the others. Unsure what time though

    • Susie thanks for letting us know or I would have been sat here all night waiting Lol.. lets hope the weather improves for tomorrow’s matches, there’s nothing more frustrating , one woman’s match has been in and out three times and it certainly puts the players off their stride. I guess this weather is just a warm up of what to expect at Wimbledon lol.

      • Hi maria – john inverdale says its nice weather after today – lets hope. Im just waiting for the order of play tomorrow as they’re gonna have to pack it all in. I reckon rafa and Novak will be up 1st on their separate courts as if they stick to the schedule they will be both back playing their semis on Thursday should they both get through.

    • Scoreboard tennis has Rafa and Novak’s matches at 10am and Andy and Stan’s matches at 2.30 at the moment. Not sure if that’s correct though as the tennis on TV doesn’t start until 11am

      • I think it’s right Maria as after the Rafa and Novak matches on their courts, the last two women’s quarter finals are being played and then the last two men’s quarters. Im sure eurosport and itv4 will revise their start times. One would hope anyway

      • I’ve just checked eurosport for tomorrow and it looks like they are on at 9.30am. Unsure about itv4. Hope that helps anyone in UK who is unsure

      • Thanks Susie, I would have hated to join Rafas’s match half way through.

    • I’m kind of relieved. Rafa likes to play in the sunshine and the weather looked horrible in Paris – wet, cold and windy. Sad for anyone who had tickets though.

Susie, I thought the semis will be on Friday?

      • Hi jas-uk. I think one set if semis were due on Thursday and one set on Friday. But I could be wrong. Who knows now what will happen due to this rain. I hope they are both on Friday as that would be much fairer to all 4 players.

  6. Good luck today Rafa, it looks like Paris is having some good old English weather. Hopefully it won’t be too long before you can get on court and work your magic once more.

  7. Rafa, have a great winning match.

You may drop a set in this one. This may be your toughest match thus far. Stay confident, focused, and ban any feelings of pressure.

    RAFA ROCKS

  8. Both eurosport channels may show both matches simultaneously so if you have this and they do, you can choose which match. I have to say that Dominic vs Novak looks a good match up so i may flick between both but will stay with rafa in the main. The best of luck to rafa today and hoping the rain clears up by then.

  9. How come Rafa & Novack are playing at the same time? I only want to watch Rafa’s match…but they are both scheduled at 6.39 am?

    • How come Rafa & Novack are playing at the same time? I only want to watch Rafa’s match…but they are both scheduled at 6.30 am

      • Sioux, most likely they will play on different courts. I think. Does anyone else have a better/correct answer?

      • Rafa is on Chatrier while Novak is on Lenglen. This is fair to the players, but unfair to TV viewers. Tennis Channel in the US will have to go back and forth between the two matches. If one match is closer in score than the other, they will stay there. I also have TCPlus, so I will be able to watch all of Rafa’s match. Vamos Rafa!

      • LOL Sorry for the dumb answer Sioux, I didn’t know you were referring to the TV schedule. I just saw va4favre’s answer.

        RAFA ROCKS

  10. Rafa you are doing sooooooooooo well and I congratulate you on all you on all you have done.

All the best for next game witih Pablo,

    Love and prayers,

    AlaineXXSydneXXAustraliaXX

    • I don’t like that … You get engrossed in one match and then they flip it over to the other one… What happened to the good old days when slams were on local channels or some sports channel that you didn’t have to pay extra for. Guess I will just have to purchase TCPlus! Please Margo, dumb would never even enter my mind with your name attached to the post! Anyway it’s pouring cats and dogs so I guess it’s going to be rain delayed the whole day.

      • There was a discussion during the Australian Open regarding the final schedule and why one player has an extra day of rest.

Advertisers and MONEY MONEY MONEY. Beverley opened my eyes. They don’t give a crap about the audience, the fans. And look at how much people pay to watch some boxing matches. Astounding. I wouldn’t watch boxing if it were FREE. LOL

I, too, remember the good ole days of free matches (usually the semis and finals). Long gone now. I believe Agassi was an original owner/founder of Tennis TV.

        Today is a bummer.

        RAFA ROCKS

      • Sioux, TCPlus was really good during the FO. Even when TC is showing Rafa’s match, they will sometimes switch. Last week there were a couple of times they joined it late. TCPlus also shows the post match interviews which TC does not. They also show the awards presentation. NBC, however, has the weekend of the French so this might switch to NBC Sports.

  11. I think the landscape of the tournament has changed a lot in the space of a week. Rafa has played so well with great results, but it looks like both Andy and Novak have improved beyond expectations given their form before and at the start of RG. I’m glad for them both, good to see, it’s a pity for talent to be wasted due to physical or mental doubts.

Seven of the eight seeded players have reached the quarter finals, which might be the first time this year, when things have not always turned out as expected. We have seven top ten players, five slam winners, three former winners of the French Open. That’s a class field.

Among them is the player who is Number 1 in the Singles Race (most consistent player this year), who has climbed several places in the top ten of the ATP rankings (currently number 4), who has the most titles on clay ever, who equals the most Masters 1000s ever, who has won the French Open 9 times, who has won 3 titles on clay this year, who just needs to believe he can win…

Vamos Rafa! You can do it!!

  12. The best of luck and vamoos sweet Rafa 🤗🍀😘 You are the Champ 🎾💪🏼❤️

  13. Best of luck Rafa

    You only turned 31!

Whether it is decima at RG this year, or not, you are still young enough to, in the next couple of years, arrive at 12 victories on one grand slam and pass over Margaret Court.
