  2. Well, we know why Rafa is now the # 10. After his injury and later the surgery he has had a difficult year, he has not forgot to play but he needs to recovery his confidence, it’s taking longer than we were expecting but I’m sure he is going to give us a good surprise soon. From now he doesn’t have points to defense, before to finish the year he will be better ranked and much better in 2016

  3. Rafa doesn’t need to be ranked #1, but he does need to be at least #4 in order to avoid meeting a top 4 player in the quarterfinals of major tournaments, like he did in Paris when he met Djokovic in the quarters. That’s crucial for his future chances – albeit slim and getting slimmer – of lifting any more slam trophies.

I hate to say it, because I’m a huge fan of his, but Rafa is giving every indication that he’s totally content to rest on his past laurels, and is now just doing an extended farewell tour until he finally retires in a year or two.

Like other commenters said, that is sad to see, especially when compared to the relentless, whatever-it-takes, never-say-die warrior that Rafa used to be. He is a shadow of his former self. Very sad indeed.

    VAMOS!!!

    • Rafa is already a living legend – if he never wins another title again it doesn’t detract from what he has already achieved.
I don’t think for one second that Rafa is resting on his past laurels – he’s just being realistic and reminding people that he has already won everything so that IF he never wins a big title again, it won’t actually matter. If he didn’t think he had a chance, he’d just retire right now imo.
Rafa has won every Slam in existence – he has won the French Open 9 times – he has won major titles on every surface – he has the best winning percentage in a slam of any of the top competitors – he has the career Grand Slam – he has been World No.1 on 3 different occasions – he has an Olympic Gold Medal. The list goes on and on. What more does he actually need to win? Why can’t fans be satisfied with everything he already has without this greed to want more and more?

Rafa doesn’t owe us anything, so all this tired talk of “he needs to change his coach” and so on comes across to me as very ungrateful for everything he’s given us over the years.

      • Rafa does indeed owe it to his fans to maximize his game. That’s why most of us have supported him for so many years. Because we like him and want to see him win as much as possible. For the vast majority of fans, that’s what it’s all about. Winning. He obviously can’t win every match. No player can. All we ask is that he give it his best shot. Nothing more. nothing less.

But most of all, Rafa owes it to himself. He has a God-given talent that he shouldn’t waste or take for granted. Ever. But unfortunately, he is doing exactly that by refusing to seek new advice and insight into his game like all the other top players have done. Some have made multiple coaching changes, with positive results each & every time. If a new coach doesn’t work out, try someone else. Returning to the old coach is always an option. But at least try someone new. And keep trying. Otherwise, he’ll never know how many slams & other tournaments he could’ve won had he pulled out all the stops.

It’s not about “greed”. It’s about pride. It’s about having no regrets. Right now, Rafa is one of the all-time greats. With a few more slam trophies, he can be the undisputed GOAT. That’s worth fighting for with everything he’s got. If he doesn’t, he’ll long rue the day he made that decision. You can take that to the bank.

        VAMOS!!!

    • @Move in Rafa or Move On

Rafa does NOT owe his fans anything – what a ridiculous thing to suggest that he does. Seriously, how ungrateful is that?

Rafa does not play tennis for us! He does not win trophies for us! He plays and wins for himself. We CHOOSE to follow him and be his fans. He has no obligation towards us whatsoever. We are merely spectators, watching from the shadows.

Rafa has already given so much over the years – countless titles, fantastic wins, multiple Slams, the lot! What could he possibly owe anyone? He gives all that without asking for anything in return. If anything WE owe HIM!

Rafa will NEVER get rid of Toni. He has said this countless times in many many interviews. Whether you like that or not, it’s a fact of life. If you can’t accept Rafa when he’s struggling then you don’t deserve to share in the glory of when he’s winning in my opinion. Maybe you should take your own advice – move in or move on!

  4. I agree with what Roger said in an interview ,the number one ranking may be out of reach for him and especially for Rafa ,, for now,,,but it’s more important to be happy in your life than being world number one ,, both have been there ,,,done that,,,,got the t Hirt etc etc etc ,

  5. Sad, but with an attitude of “I don’t need to win slams” no one should expect much more than this.

    • Yes, Rafa doesn’t need to win more slams or other tournaments, but he obviously still wants to (as all us fans like to see)! Why else does he work so hard to come back again and again from numerous injuries and set-backs?

    • He doesn’t need to win slams – he already has 14. He wants more but he certainly doesn’t need more.
All you seem to have ever cared about is Rafa getting more Slams than Federer. So what if he doesn’t? 14 is still incredible!

      • Yeah right. Silly me. Being the GOAT is not a big deal. Just ask Federer or Rod Laver. Nobody cares about that except 99% of tennis players, fans, and media. Other than that, who cares?!?!? LOL

      • Yes of course – only being GOAT is what matters. Pete Sampras’ career is a complete failure because Roger Federer over took his records. No one ever remember Bjorn Borg any more because he isn’t the GOAT. McEnroe, Becker, Emerson, Djokovic – all total nobodies…….
Seriously, you sound so ridiculous. Of course, to strive to be the greatest is important. But to suggest Rafa’s career will only be truly worthwhile if he overtakes Federer’s record is insane. Even with a new coaching staff, there was NEVER any guarantee that Rafa would win more than 17 Slams. You talk about pride, but it IS greed – pure and simple.

And what you and J Beer are conveniently forgetting in your constant attempts to slate Rafa is that he said back in January that he WOULD like to win another Slam, to overtake Sampras. All he said recently is that he is SATISFIED with the amount he has. That doesn’t for one second mean he doesn’t want to win any more – he just knows that it won’t be the end of the World if he doesn’t.

    • I thought there woudn’t be a change in the rankings due to Queens result last week, but I and many others are optimistic that things will get better for Rafa, if you watch the top 30 of Rafa’s best shots at Wimbledon 2014 against 3 different players, they are breathtaking and some of that has appeared this year in Rafa’s play so don’t be sad, I’m not
