Novak Djokovic, the 2011 titlist, has been named top seed for The Championships on Wednesday. Rafael Nadal, who clinched his 14th Grand Slam championship at Roland Garros two weeks ago and is currently No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, is No. 2 seed. Defending champion Andy Murray is third seed, while fourth seed Roger Federer is aiming to capture his eighth Wimbledon title.

Formula amended in 2002 for men as follows: Take ESP points at 16 June 2014. Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournament in past 12 months. Add 75% points earned for best grass court tournament in 12 months before that.

Can Rafael Nadal survive the first week? Nadal made the Wimbledon final for five straight years in which he competed, winning twice, and then lost before the third round the last two years. In 2012 it was No. 100 Lukas Rosol who played the match of his life to knock out the Spaniard in five sets in the second round. Last year it was No. 135 Steve Darcis winning in straight sets in the first round.

For the second time in his career – the first was in 2010 – Rafael Nadal will go into Wimbledon – the third Grand Slam of the season – as French Open champion and world number-one. However, the UK tournament organisers will announce on Wednesday that the Spaniard’s ranking will not be maintained and he will be seeded behind Novak Djokovic – who is second in the ATP ranking with 170 points.
