Rafael Nadal defeats Jerzy Janowicz to advance to Quarterfinals

Rafael Nadal defeated Jerzy Janowicz of Poland 7-5, 6-4, in Round 3 of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris to reach the quarterfinals, where he will face Richard Gasquet in a rematch of the US Open semis.

Rafa looked faster on his feet today, as he hoped he would in his R2 presser. However, Janowicz did not make the task easy. The first set saw no break points for either player until 5-5, where Rafa broke to take a 6-5 lead and took the set at 7-5. The second set started well, with Rafa breaking Janowicz in the first game, but was broken back in the very next game. Rafa broke again to gain a 3-2 lead. In what proved to be another physical set, Rafa eventually proved to be the tougher of the two, taking it at 6-4. Well done, Rafa!

  1. Glad to see the Pole go back to Poland, that’ll teach him to laugh at his opponent!

Congrats Rafa and I really doubt that you’ll have any problem defeating Gasquet, hopefully he’ll play as badly as he did in Montreal this summer.
