When Roland Garros paid tribute to Rafael Nadal, it was only fitting that Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic stood by his side. The Big 4, reunited on Court Philippe-Chatrier, shared a moment that transcended competition. We all saw how much it meant to Rafa. Not long after the ceremony, both Roger and Andy shared their thoughts—personal, sincere reflections that added even more weight to an already emotional farewell.

While Rafa was still soaking in the emotion of the moment, two of his greatest rivals and closest companions in the sport took a moment backstage to reflect on what the ceremony—and Rafa himself—meant to them.
Andy Murray:
“Delivering that speech in several languages, that was pretty good. At one point, his notes flew away (laughs), but aside from that, I thought he spoke really well. You could see how important this moment was to him and how happy it made him. I was supposed to come anyway, given my work with Novak (the two ended their collaboration on May 13), and Amélie asked me last week if I could still come. It was natural—I’ve always gotten along well with him since we were kids. Obviously, what he’s achieved is incredible, and especially here. That record—I’d be very, very surprised if it’s ever broken. I think it will stand the test of time. A great player, a great guy—it’s amazing that he got such a send-off.”
Roger Federer:
“It was perfect! Honestly, giving Rafa that plaque to keep forever—that was amazing. Unlike him, it didn’t surprise me because I knew it was coming. But I was happy for him, seeing how emotional he was. For me, the most moving moment was when I walked toward him as we came onto the court. It felt like it lasted forever, with the whole stadium watching us—it was a powerful moment for Novak, Andy, and me. Did I shed a tear? Almost! Especially when I greeted Rafa, because I could feel how deeply touched he was by the ceremony…”
What an emotional day for Rafa and his friends. Rivalries may fade, but moments like this stick around.

Raphael Nadal was an amazing guy. He will be truly missed. Tennis will miss him. He is a legend.
It really was the perfect send-off today for Rafa at Roland Garros! They did a superb job and you could tell that Rafa was very moved by the whole ceremony. It was truly what he deserved. All the right people were there from his extended family, Uncle Tony, Carlos not to mention Roger, Novak and Andy. I loved all the little details from the t-shirts (the white ones outlining the word RAFA and a heart) to the terrific videos etc. I shed a few tears watching it as well. I absolutely loved the permanent plaque with Rafa’s footprint that they have embedded on court and you could tell that Rafa was very touched by that gesture. Although Rafa has said that he is comfortable with his decision to retire, you could tell how much he still loves the game and loved playing on that court. I’m so grateful that I got to witness this player for so long – tennis is truly not the same without him. And Rafa as usual was classy, humble and genuine from start to finish!
It was hard not to shed some tears. It really was perfect so thanks to the French organizers. I already thought that recognizing Rafa at the Olympics was incredible. They topped themselves yesterday. Having the big 4 there was perfect. It was also a tribute to their entire era. What moved me the most was the love to. the fans. You could feel it.
So very moving and befitting. It all meant so much to him. Like Roger said, it was perfect. Amelie did a fantastic job, thank you. He will be sorely missed.
Thank you to Roger, Andy, and Novak. Your participation spoke volumes-it meant so much to Rafa.
Rafa was sincere and heartfelt in his words, and they resonated with everyone. It has been a privilege
to witness Rafa’s rivalry and camaraderie with the three of you.
What moments today as the four of
you met at RG again-smiles and tears.
Once young talents-now, accomplished, polished, and still
so respectful of each other. Unforgettable moments-indeed a golden era👑🙏🏆🍾
