Billie Jean King Asks for a Photo with Rafael Nadal’s Son

A familiar face came to say hello to Rafael Nadal during his practice session at the Davis Cup in Malaga – Billie Jean King. Not only is she one of the greatest tennis players of all time, but her advocacy for women’s sports in the 1960s and 1970s revolutionized school, amateur, and professional athletics, making it more acceptable for girls and women to be athletes.

Just as the Davis Cup is the World Cup of men’s tennis, the women’s equivalent is also taking place in Malaga. The competition, previously known as the Fed Cup, was renamed four years ago in honor of former World No. 1 Billie Jean King, and is now called the Billie Jean King Cup.

She joked with Rafa that she wanted “a photo with the baby,” as his son, Rafa Junior, was also there with a racket and tennis ball in the spectator’s box, accompanied by his mother, Maria Francisca Perello, who was taking care of him.

A few moments later Baby Rafa joined them and our champ was seen lovingly tousling his son’s hair. It was a picture-perfect moment of history meeting the sport’s bright future, and one we’d all love to see.
