Rafael Nadal Surprised by 2 PM Match Time: I Don’t Know If I’ll Play Tomorrow

After an impressive debut in doubles with Carlos Alcaraz and a strong performance for Spain, Rafael Nadal was disappointed to find out he is expected to return to the court Sunday afternoon for the first round of the men’s singles at the Paris Olympics.

Our champ wants to “make the smartest decision possible to have the best chances to bring a medal back home” but admitted to being baffled by the schedule.

A 2:00pm game? I don’t understand the schedule. It seems outrageous to me when I’m playing at two o’clock.

I don’t know if I’ll play tomorrow. I’ll have to go back to the village and talk to the team, I’ll make the decision that I think is most appropriate to have a chance of getting results for Spain.

Sometimes less is more.

But if Rafa is going to bring back a medal for singles play – let alone face Novak Djokovic for a 60th career time — he will have to play Sunday. A win over Fucsovics would advance Rafa into a second-round match against Djokovic on Monday or Tuesday.

Asked if he was ready for a potential “last dance” Djokovic in singles competition during the Olympics, Rafa had a quick quip.

“Who say that’s last dance?” he said.

No matter what decision you make, Rafa, we will support you. We’re glad you’re prioritizing your health.

  1. So pissed right now as my network is showing the Humbert vs. Marozsan match right now instead of Nadal / Fucsovics. They don’t think maybe people might want to watch Nadal in what could be his final time playing at Roland Garros – UGH!!!

  2. GO FOR DOUBLES GOLD! HAVE FUN AS NADALCARAZ THEN ALSO WATCH CARLITOS WIN GOLD FOR ESPANA! YOU”LL DO A NOLE “LAST DANCE” AT SOME FUTURE TIME WHEN IT SUITS YOU!!!
NOT TO MENTION THE BOGUS FIRST ROUND NOLE GOT> REMEMBER YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO MEET UP WITH M.F. FOR DOUBLES.

  3. Snappy reply, Rafa. The choice is yours, and no one else’s. Enjoy💪🤛👏👍🍀🎾❤️
