Roger Federer’s final professional tennis match ended in defeat as Team World claimed a doubles victory over Team Europe at the Laver Cup on Friday.
Roger, alongside Rafael Nadal, served at match point in the deciding tie-breaker but was unable to sign off from the ATP Tour with a victory as Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe edged a gripping contest 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 11-9, the win secured at close to 12.30 a.m. local time at London’s O2 Arena.

Oh so tough to watch because one knows that an era has now passed but so grateful that I was able to enjoy watching Roger playing tennis. 🎾❤️
I’ll be a mess when it’s Rafa’s turn😩❤️
❤️
End if an amazing era. What a night and a beautiful send off for Roger. Rafa clearly looked sad and all were crying including me. It’s just a moment you wish time could stop. McEnroe is so right. Roger is the Baryshnikov of tennis. 🎾♥️
Okay that was tough, Roger was crying, Rafa was crying ….. I was crying (ha!)!!! But I’m so happy that he went out playing with his peers, especially Rafa! Shame they didn’t win, but it was a competitive match and Roger and Rafa looked like they were having fun, which is the most important thing!!
