Rafa Roundup: Friday night with Federer and Nadal

Asked who his preferred partner would be for the notable swangsong, though, he did not hesitate:

“Of course [I’d like it to be Nadal]. No doubt. I mean, I think it could be quite a unique situation, you know, for as long as we battled together to having always this respect for one another, the families, our coaching teams, we always got along really well.

“For us as well to go through careers that we both have had and to come out on the other side and be able to have a nice relationship, I think is maybe a great message as well to not just tennis but sports and maybe even beyond. For that reason, I think it would be great.”

Of course in theory, it will not be the decision of either Federer or Nadal—but it is hard to imagine captain Borg would deny them and the millions of ‘Fedal’ fans the chance for one last dance.

The tennis player, who now trains with Calos Moya, also stressed the importance of physical care and physiotherapy.

“For professional athletes, having a good medical team behind you is everything,” said Nadal.

“In the end, we live with injuries on a daily basis, with pushing our bodies to the limit, and without having the right people by your side to help you with recovery, prevention or preparation, it is impossible to get ahead.

“I have had my physio since 2006, he is my shadow. In the last 15 years he has been the person who has spent the most hours with me, he is an important part of my life.”

    • David, very funny!☺️ 2022 has been a special year for me, I saw Rafa three times already and look forward to Friday so much…normally I only do one tour a year or every two years.

      Vamos Rafa💪❤️

  1. Roger spoke so eloquently and honestly about his feelings leading up to his retirement announcement. How nice of him to say that it would be a dream to play doubles with Rafa and I’m happy that his wish is granted.

Rafa’s sole reason for playing at the Laver Cup is to partner up with his mate Roger and my main reason to watch it is to see Fedal one last time! Roger said he’ll be nervous and I guess he’s worried about his knee holding up and will want to put on a good show. I’m praying that his last match, alongside Rafa, will end in a victory.

  2. Great moment for Rafa, Roger, and fans. It has been a fabulous journey; it is as Roger
    stated, bittersweet🙏🎾👏❤️

  3. Hoping to watch both Roger and Rafa play doubles was the reason why I am in London. Fingers and toes crossed!🙏 🙏

      • Thanks Mimi! I think the website manager will have to show you how if he/she is reading this. Enjoy and fingers crossed for Fedal playing and winning in the meantime! It will be one of those unforgettable experiences of a lifetime! 🥰

    • Mimi, the atmosphere in the arena will be electric, so enjoy. I’ll be watching it in London on my tv – not as lucky as you!

  4. I can’t wait for the Laver Cup. Will be a dream to watch this two fantastic players Rafa Nadal & Roger Federer for one last time!❤️❤️

    • Me too! I can’t think of a better pairing for Roger’s final Laver Cup. It will be great to watch them play doubles together for the last time. They paired up at the Laver Cup a few years ago. It was such a treat to watch that match. I hope that Roger and Rafa will play a few exhibition matches together before Roger hangs up his rackets for good.
