World No. 3 Rafael Nadal defeated his good friend Richard Gasquet 6-0, 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the US Open fourth round as he continues his bid for a fifth title at Flushing Meadows. After escaping a 0/40 deficit on his serve in the first game, Rafa raced through the rest of the match in two hours and 17 minutes.
Rafa hasn’t just won their last 18 meetings now (tying the men’s Open Era record for most wins without a loss in a tour-level head-to-head), he’s also won their last 34 sets in a row.
Our champ will next face Frances Tiafoe, against whom he has won both his previous matches. The American defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-4 earlier in the day.
