After ending a prolonged losing streak to Jimmy Connors in 1980, the late Vitas Gerulaitis famously uttered: “Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row!” But it’s too late for French veteran Gasquet, who will come into his third-round matchup with Rafa 0-17 against the all-time Slam king.

Rafa is a perfect 21-0 in Grand Slam play this season with titles at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, his lone setback a semifinal pull-out at Wimbledon due to an abdominal tear, an injury that cost him a shot at the Grand Slam.

Our champ is seeking his fifth US Open title, which would put him level with Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer and Pete Sampras for most in the Open Era. It would also send him back to No. 1 for the first time since January 2020.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. One of the things I hate the most about the ESPN coverage is the way they leave one match (Nadal versus Gasquet) to cover some obscure US player. Generally my local sports channel provides their own coverage of the matches, which I prefer, but tonight they are deferring to the ESPN feed. I don’t give a crap about the Swiatek versus Davis match, but that is all they are showing at the moment. I wan to watch Rafa!! So frustrating! And Davis (the American) hasn’t even won one game!! UGH!

  2. Yes, it’s September 3rd. Thank you all. Added it to the link for all times in the world, but have no idea why I wrote it here September 2nd. Those night matches are not ideal for us outside of USA.

    • Well… we here in the USA are typically up between 2 and 7 am to watch Rafa around the world. We’re happy to have him in our time zone :). This is the best major for me here in Las Vegas – I get to watch at 4:00PM my time! Unheard of! LOL

Honestly though, my days and nights are reversed – vastly from staying up after 2:00am to watch Rafa!

Vamos Rafa! See you in the Round of 16!

    • You are my idol Nadal
My wish for my 9th birthday us to have you there☺☺☺
      I’ve been followin you forever!!!
I had been a very good tennis player and played in some tournaments
Good luck to you in New York
      Cheers Moo
