PHOTOS: Many celebrities in the crowd for Rafael Nadal’s French Open third round match

The stars turned up in full force at Roland-Garros on Friday, but even Rafael Nadal played on a smaller court they decided to watch him instead Novak Djokovic and other players on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Actors Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson joined the party on Court Suzanne-Lenglen to witness Rafa’s clay-court artistry. Football legends Zinedine Zidane and Clarence Seedorf also took in the action from close quarters.

  1. Please allow me a small rant. Eurosport are doing my head in. One channel shows cycling nearly all day. The other channel spends half its time showing retired players talking, rather than tennis. I know it’s available on the Player, but that’s an extra charge, and the BBC and Amazon Prime both offer multi-court coverage at no extra charge when they’re showing tennis. It is really, really annoying me. I do not wish to see Barbara Schett, Tim Henman, Mats Wilander and Alex Corretja talking, when there are several matches going on. Gah. Rant over!

  2. Not surprised. Rafa has always been a charismatic crowd puller and crowd pleaser – while Novak is just a good player lacking that magnetic ‘wow’ factor. Just look at the young gen players – so many of them Rafa fans, inspired by Rafa, started playing tennis because of Rafa – no one’s been inspired by Novak Djokovic – he has to accept he is not really a mega star like Rafa. 😊😁

    • WOW I never actually thought about that! I’m pretty sure some players must have been inspired by Djokovic, but I’ve never heard anyone actually say it:)

I love that recent picture of Iga and Rafa with the caption, ‘find someone who looks at you the way Iga looks at Rafa.’

Rafa Nadal, such an inspiration! Keep it up champ!!
