Taylor on playing Rafa:

I kind of beat myself trying to fire off winners against him. I think my level is so much higher than it was then, so I maybe won’t be feeling like I need to pull the trigger so much, need to do so much. I can kind of just play more within myself.

Rafa on playing Taylor:

I know tomorrow I need to be ready physically, mentally, in terms of playing at a very high level of tennis because he’s playing well. I am going to try to do the work that I need to do to be ready for tomorrow and then let’s see.

Rafa is bidding to lift his fourth consecutive title to start 2022, all on hard courts. After winning the Melbourne Summer Set and Australian Open in January, he arrived in the California desert on the back of triumphing at Acapulco.

Rafa is 91-37 in finals with 11 straight wins in finals since May 2019. Fritz is 1-5 in finals and playing in the biggest championship match of his career.

Rafa, who turns 36 on 3 June, is hoping to pass Roger Federer, 35, in 2017, as the oldest men’s champion in BNP Paribas Open tournament history. Our champ would also tie Novak Djokovic’s record with his 37th ATP Masters 1000 title.

  1. Just read on Twitter that Taylor Fritz had to stop his warmup session after only a few minutes. His ankle was also bothering him at the end of the match yesterday.

  2. I have no doubt he will win and will rise to number 3 on rankings and will hold Number one spot With Djokovic on masters thousands….and finally will be 21-0 and Best will best results on hard court to share with 2013 season also 4 titles

  3. As much as I like Taylor Fritz for his tennis game and him as a person , I will not feel good if Rafa loses to him . That means Rafa has to win this match by playing like he did in the third set against Alvarez . Taking the ball early on service returns would help to get Rafa in control of the points which will be a must and I think Rafa should try to get all his first serves in as he did in the 1st set against Carlos . Vamos and please take this trophy as #1 is within range for 2022 .

  4. Find the strength to finish it outRafa!!! Your body deserves a trophy!!! So does your head!! Well done to keep ypur wits about you in the wind!!!! There will be tough serves but noone can out wit you. One more time,Vamos man!!!!
