The draw for the Mexican Open has been released and Rafael Nadal will face Reilly Opelka in the opening round, with Matteo Berrettini lurking in his quarter and top seed Daniil Medvedev a potential semi-final opponent.

- Quarter-final: Matteo Berrettini

Rafa is seeking to continue his perfect start to the 2022 season in Acapulco. He is 10-0 on the year, a trophy at the Melbourne Summer Set preceding his record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title.
If Rafa wins Acapulco for a fourth time this year, he would tie Thomas Muster and David Ferrer for most titles in the tournament’s history. He is 20-2 at the ATP 500 event, winning it twice when it was held on clay (in 2005 and 2013) and once since it switched to hard in 2014 (in 2020).

All I want for is to see Rafa play well and win , one match at a time .Rafa is off to a great start and I see no reason in his present condition and game for him to rest and take time off .The Mexican Open would be a great title for Rafa to win and I love the competition as it would be a tremendous confidence boost should Rafa capture this title . The first round opponent Reilly Opelika is playing great be tennis and will test Rafa and is a good matchup . I would love Rafa to win in straights but that will require taking the aggressive position from the outset. Rafa needs to watch the Nortie match just played in Delray and to try to take the service return early and keep the returns deep as Nortie managed to do as well as get a high percentage bof first serves in . It’s a great opportunity for him to continue acquiring match practice against quality opponents! He, himself, has said that he can’t play as few tournaments again as he has the last (2) years. These events help test & ultimately improve his fitness & accuracy! Every tourney wants him as he is ratings & ticket sales gold wherever he goes! I remember last year when he announced DC! Tickets sold out in an hour w/a 15K person waiting list! Only he, Roger & Serena could do that, not even Novak! Rafa knows he needs to be SUPER fit & strong for RG/FO, but he won’t get there without matches! He’s had a lot of rest over these last (2) years, having missed (4) of the last (8) GS! I think him not playing a lot, especially last year is why he struggled more with his foot & fitness! I’m glad he’s playing AMT as it’s short enough to continue his momentum from the AO, but also long enough to allow him a proper rest! I think IW is another great choice, skip Miami, then begin preparations for the Clay, starting w/MC! VAMOS RAFA!!!!

I couldn’t care less about Acapulco, I just want Rafa to stay healthy and put some other matches in his legs.
Acapulco is not a priority, just like a practice to keep him sharp. He visited his tennis centre in Cancun and I’d say that was the main reason he travelled.

His Acapulco draw is just like Mini Australian Open. I’m still hoping he won’t play. People are commenting he wants to become #1 so that’s the reason but I think he should get well deserved rest. As always, Rafa and his team know better than me.
No, he doesn’t want to chase No.1, but I think he wants to boost his ranking enough to avoid many top players one after the other in his draw. He was fortunate at the AO, with karatsev, zverev, Djokovic and Medvedev as projected opponents. That is insane whichever way one looks at it. So, a high enough ranking No 4 or 3 would help a lot in the French open for sure.

I don’t really care what happens at Acupulco. Only that he stays fit and healthy for the clay season. One grand slam on hard is the perfect start whichever way one looks at it. Acupulco is irrelevant in the bigger picture.
