Eleven-times champion Rafael Nadal booked his place in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open by beating Japanese Kei Nishikori 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 in a hard-fought match on Thursday. He’ll meet Cameron Norrie in the last eight, the Briton advancing when David Goffin pulled out injured, trailing 6-0, 3-5.
After the match, Rafa said:
“Kei is an amazing player. So, it’s an important victory for me. He played great I think after that first set and I started playing very well. But, it’s true that he made things a little bit easier at the beginning. Later he increased a lot the level of his play. So it was very tough. But I found a way to be through. I think I played much better than yesterday. That’s a very important thing for me, and the level of positive energy has been higher. So, I’m very satisfied.”

A topsy turvey match, brilliant first set, dropped his level in the second and came back strongly in the third to win convincingly. Rafa made it hard on himself but the important thing is that he came through.
It’s always important that Rafa is confident and that victory should give him belief.
