Rafa on playing Grigor:

Tomorrow I have a very tough opponent in front [of me], so I need to be at my 100 per cent every single moment. We had some great matches. In Melbourne, of course [it was] best of five. The semi-final [was] an emotional one. We played another great match in Beijing, another one in Shanghai with Grigor.

He’s a good friend, a good guy, and a great player. It’s going to be a tough test in my second round. Going to be his third. I need to be ready for it. I hope to be ready for it. I am just excited to play a tough match very early in the tournament.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Well done to Rafa. He’s looking really good out there.

Why did Grigor break his racquet? Did he think he would suddenly start playing well and beat our champ? We’ll probably never know:)

    • Sheer frustration. Rafa played well, yes, but Grigor had a really terrible day, starting with serving woes, lots of df’s, errors, poor shot selection, looking like he was freezing out there in the cold ‘windy’. (This isn’t just my opinion, it’s Rafa’s, as in his post-match interview, although in my words. Among my fave things about Rafa is that he “tells it like it is” as we used to say, although he is always, always kind about it.)

  2. Sorry for the duplication. Thought the first comment got lost in cyberspace as it didn’t appear.
