Top seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal advanced to the Rogers Cup final on Saturday when Gael Monfils withdrew (ankle) before their semifinal.
Rafa will face eighth-seeded Daniil Medvedev, a 6-1, 7-6(6) winner over Karen Khachanov, in the all-Russian first semifinal.

Should Rafa beat Russian Daniil Medvedev in the Montreal final on Sunday, the World No. 2 would win his 35th Masters 1000 crown, extending his all-time lead.
Medvedev, who made last week’s final in Washington, is 1-6 all-time against the Big 3, with his only victory coming over Djokovic at Monte Carlo back in April.
Our champ is seeking his fifth trophy at the ATP Masters 1000 event and third of 2019, following title runs in Rome and Roland Garros.
By making it to the final of the Canadian Open, Rafa is also assured of retaining his world number two spot when the updated ATP rankings are released on Monday.

I agree with Rafa Fan 1 and Jeffrey, Medvedev has looked close to unbeatable all week. Rafa will have to come out with high confidence and play his very best tennis, unless Medvedev is nervous about his first M1000 final (I doubt it, but he’s lost 3 of 4 finals he’s played this year). I think this is going to be very difficult for Rafa and Medvedev’s speed between points isn’t going to help. For Rafa, a slow start isn’t going to cut it. He needs his first serve working well and try to avoid long rallies by using his variety and creativity, as Medvedev can rally all day and not miss.
Bring a truckload of kitchen sinks and leave the doubts in the locker room – good luck and vamos Rafa!!!
Rafa must play his best tennis to win against Medvedev who is playing out of this world . The key is to play serve and volley more often and to limit unforced errors to a minimum . I hope Rafa steps up his game and wins this match and title .

“Out of this world” is somewhat exaggerated. No doubt Medvedev is very talented and being young enough to run around like a rabbit is in his favour as is the crowd support his talking French has provided him. However, looking at the statistics of his matches they tell a less terrifying story. He is certainly dangerous, as are all players who arrive at the final of an important tournament. I share the concerns of his fans, but hopefully Rafa has the experience not to be intimitated.

I NEVER rely on just one article for any subject even though I sometimes give just one source. And I do read the articles [as opposed to just headlines] be they in English, French or Spanish and I hope to think I have learned something about parsing through a lot of the nonsense disguised as “news”.
I did get burned on the Hola announcement of Rafa’s forthcoming marriage. Everyone was reporting the same. BUT that’s on me. In my excitement for Rafa I didn’t check to see if it was a “quote” by Rafa. It wasn’t. And that’s a reason I didn’t come here and report that Rafa was at a yacht dealership. It was a tiny picture of Rafa inside a dealership on a page full of different articles. It was the only mention that I could find. I thought it was fake news.
As far as Luigi Gatto is concerned, he does give credit to the original source. Checking his English version against either Spanish or French primes sources have been accurate except for sometimes clumsy translations.
I haven’t been able to locate either a plagiarism lawsuit filed by Stephanie Myles against Gatto or any corroborating articles but rest assured I will keep your tip in mind.
Margo: in his latest post re:Rafa’s us open outfits he quotes Rafa with no mention of the original source. I don’t believe Stephanie is the suing type of person but she did call him out more than once publicly. As long as you realize that he never attends any tournament, press conference or speaks to any player in person you are certainly free to read whatever you choose.

I am in Malaysia and follow this on an app called Tennis Temple. They are saying that the RAFA match is the first one at 1.30 pm followed by the mens doubles but the website and Rafa fans say RAFA is 4 pm local time with mens doubles afterwards.. Any thoughts anyone? The WTA is ladies singles first at 1.30 pm local time and followed by ladies doubles at 4 pm.
