PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal easily dispatches Stan Wawrinka to reach Madrid Open semifinals

Rafael Nadal secured a place in the semifinals of the 2019 Madrid Open on Friday after he dismantled Stan Wawrinka in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

According to ATP, it will be Rafa’s record 70th ATP Masters 1000 semi-final, as he looks to extend his record number of trophies at the elite level to 34. The second seed has emerged victorious five times in Madrid, and he will try to move one step closer to another triumph on Saturday against reigning Next Gen ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals on Saturday.

After the match, Rafa said:

Perfection does not exist, but it was one of my best matches in a while and I’d say my best match on clay this season. That means a lot to me…. to have this feeling in what I believe is a crucial stage in the clay season.

  2. I watched the Federer vs Thiem match earlier, and I thought, wow, I don’t fancy Rafa facing either of these guys!

    And then I saw Rafa’s match tonight… ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Rafa was just on fire. Stan did not play well, but it would not have made a difference today. I was thrilled when Rafa said he was feeling great after his match yesterday. His virus is gone. Tsitsipas is playing doubles now. Even for a 20 year old, that is a lot of tennis.
