Australian Open SF: What time does Rafael Nadal play against Stefanos Tsitsipas?

Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas will be squaring off for the third time in their careers when they collide in the Australian Open semifinals on Thursday.

This is Rafa’s fifth semifinal at the Australian Open. He has only ever lost one, to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2008.

Match time: 7:30 PM AEDT local time / 2:30 AM EST – New York, Montreal / 8:30 AM GMT – United Kingdom / 9:30 AM CET – Spain, France, Germany, Italy.  To convert to your local time, use this website.

Rafa on playing Stefanos:

He’s a player that during the last year has been improving every month. He’s able to win against the best players of the world already. He’s a great player. He’s unbelievable today but he will have the chance to be one of the best for such a long time.

Stefanos on Rafa:

I played him once on clay, once hard court. I felt very close to beating him in Toronto, though the score was 6-2, 7-6. I remember coming back to the locker room and promising to myself I’m going to do much better against him next time.

The pair have faced each other of two previous occasions, with Rafa winning in straight sets both times at Barcelona and the Canadian Masters last year.

At 32 years 238 days, Rafa is 12 years 70 days older than Tsitsipas, who is 20 years 168 days. It is the 9th largest age gap between a pair of Grand Slam men’s singles semifinalists in the Open Era and the 4th-largest age gap between a pair of Australian Open men’s singles semifinalists in the Open Era.

Rafa is bidding to reach his 25th Grand Slam final and close the gap on Roger Federer at the top of the list for most Grand Slam final appearances in history

Rafa is also bidding to become the first man in the Open Era – and only the 3rd man in history – to win each of the 4 Grand Slam titles twice. Roy Emerson and Rod Laver are the only players to have won each Grand Slam on 2 or more occasions.

Good luck & Vamos Rafa!

  4. Rafa has whooped Stephanos twice. He was demolished in May 2018 in Barcelona 6-2, 6-1. He was then beaten on his birthday on August 12, 2018, in Toronto 6-2, 7-6 [7-4]. He has subsequently said he felt he was winning at Toronto. Duuhhhh. This loss came after he declared “I’m capable of doing anything on court and beating any opponent.”

Not so fast Stephanos. You are not the only one who has improved since you last played Rafa. So if Rafa were better than you last year, think how much better than you he is now in 2019. You have a way to go before you can claim to be the giant killer because Rafa is the giant of tennis.

GOOD LUCK RAFA. Make Stephanos eat his words.

  5. Rafa , wishing you all the very best 👍
Just have faith in yourself, you are the BEST
You give us hope you are a source of inspiration for millions of your fans
We Indians are proud of you 👍👍

  6. Get it done Rafa!

Rafa has won all of his matches in 3 sets.

Stafanos has won all of his matches in 4 sets.

Only one streak will continue tomorrow 🙂

I feel for Nishikori but it’s annoying that he didn’t have any fight left for Djoker, after his previous match. Oh well.

What about Lucas Pouille! I thought Raonic had a thing going what with the way he dispatched Zverev. Apparently not! Probably Zverev was just that bad?

    • Yes, Zverev was *that bad*! But Raonic has been playing and serving very well. He had trouble with his serve v Pouille and after mentioned a problem with his knee, something which has been ongoing for years, I believe.

    • One more next-gen big mouth is launching warnings to Rafa. Wish they would not start thinking they are nature’s gift just because they won a few matches. Please Rafa, beat Tsit… to a pulp and give him a lesson in humility.
Wamos Rafa, you are the best.

      • Margo, if you follow delarations of the next gen players expecially Tsitsipas about beating Rafa you would not need to ask for resources! Keep updated please

      • PUMA, I actively search for new material on Rafa either from him or his team members.

Although I like some of the NextGen players I don’t follow them. That’s why I was curious about who sent a warning to Rafa or said he could beat Rafa. I couldn’t find anything and that’s why I asked for a source.

I did see a lot of sensational headlines but nothing in any of the articles quote any player saying he can beat Rafa. No need for you to become belligerent because you make stuff up from reading only headlines and then post it here. Facts help with having a discussion.

        RAFA ROCKS

  7. I had hoped that Nishikori beat or at least tire out Djokovic. Neither was to be. Kei retired with a score of 1-6, 1-4 in his QF match.

If Djokovic makes it to the final, Rafa at least will have had an extra day of rest between his SF and final.

  8. Dear Rafa, I wish you all the best and more for your next match. Like you, I say one step at a time. You know that Tsitsipas is aggressive, confident and accurate. He seems to be determined to win especially after losing to you in Toronto.

Keep up your intensity, be aggressive and confident, mix up shots. Carlos and you are doing well. Keep it up my champ!!! You deserve it! In addition may Lady Luck shine on you!

You can do it and whatever happens you are my champ as always and will be always!!

    Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

  9. Watching djoker play against nishikori. The way djoker is playing and the way Rafa is playing in this tournament. They are no match. Rafa will win in three sets. Hoping and praying that Rafa stays healthy. Vamos💪💪💪

  10. Go on had a lot of hard lucks in this tournament over the years..but you keep coming back stronger..bring AU Open home once more..we are with you!!!

  11. Best of luck vamosssssssssssss champ you can do it 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🎾❤️😘👍🏆🇺🇸🏆
