Rafael Nadal, a superstar off the court, too

Forget the titles. Rafael Nadal’s true greatness occurs outside the tennis courts.

Yesterday after his win over Dominic Thiem, our champ revealed that he was recently called upon by Andy Murray to offer advice on how to recover and return from serious injury.

Here’s what Rafa said:

Doesn’t matter if we are rivals, for me the friendship is before the tennis court. If any player have any doubts about the injuries or treatment that I do, I am always very happy to tell them my experience. I tell him the things that I think worked for me. Then, of course, he has his group and he will decide.

I have been in that situation. I know how tough and frustrating is when you work every day and you don’t see the light of how to improve. You don’t see any improvements. But then one day trying things, trying treatments, one day things are going better, no? That’s what I really hope about him because he is important, very important, for our tour.

  1. WOW. Now that’s what I call a human being. Rafa giving advice to Andy Murray on the road to his recovery is a true act of sportsmanship. I’m so happy to be in this life time to witness this guy. Totally amazing. Rafa has the love and the respect for this sports and to his opponents.
Good Luck in winning all your clay tournaments and RG too.

  2. Rafa is a true generous humanitarian in all directions.

With his fellow players, his tennis, his family, his team, his friends and all those who he comes into contact with as he travels around the world.
He is not just about tennis, but feels for other people and children as well.
His genuineness is what is always perceived by all, and he does it with so much graciousness.
    Love you Rafa.

All the best Andy for your recovery, and when you are ready I am sure Rafa would love you to go to Mallorca to the Academy practice courts, to slowly get back into things.

All the best Rafa for your game against Kai,

    Love and prayers,

  3. What a human being, What a leader! Do you think Chokovic would have ever called one of his top rivals to help them out in rehabbing to try to get them back to their best form? No way, Chokovic wants to kill his opponents and get them out of the way so he can say he beat his rival into submission. Do you thing Roger would have ever done that? No way! He’s to interested in becoming the GOAT he wouldn’t want his competition to come back to challenge him. Only Rafa. Actually, I think Murray would have done the same. Murray is genuinely a good guy too. I always see him speaking up for the integrity of the game, but he’s just not as good as the other 3 so he doesn’t get as much press in that aspect. So out of the 3 really all time greats, Rafa is the best human being and leader. I’ve got no problem with drive, competitive nature, and wanting to beat your opponent into submission, but after the battle, it takes a good man to say let me help you back up. That’s why I like Rafa so much. He was the one to say lower the top guys prize winning money and give some to the lower guys. Roger was like, I don’t care about you losers, give me it all. That was back in the day when Rafa was ascending knowing it was his money that was going to be affected, when they were the leaders of the players association. At that time Roger was a whinny little bitch and Rafa said you have to be a good loser too not just a good winner. Now After Rafa has rubbed off on Roger, Roger is a good guy too, Chokovic for that matter too. Both are more humble because of Rafa and both are more aware and doing things to help the problems of the world. Rafa is the best thing to have happened to the Golden Era. He saved it from Being the Roger show, he saved it from player strike, he saved it from it becoming the Chokovic take over, and has taught the future that Tennis is just a game that the people and friendships are inherently more important than simply just winning (as he kicks ass while doing all of it! VAMOS!!!)

    • WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) : ): ) OUR RAFA IS A TRUE SPORTSMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) : )
      TOMORROW WILL BE A GREAT MATCH !!!!!!!!!!! : ) GO RAFA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) AS ALWAYS, IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH YOU PLAY LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) : ) : )
      VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

    • Gold Wolf,
One of the best comments I have ever read on Nadal. I could sign my name on all the evaluations you make about Rafa and the other two Djok and RF. To me the biggest problem with Rafa is his exaggerated humility that sometimes borders on a sentiment of inferiority. Anyway, I hope Rafa continues as long as possible because I would not know whom to follow once he quits.

Wamos Rafa, you are the best.

  4. A true champion-Rafael has stated his concern for the health of players due to the scheduling and regulations of the tour. There is more than $ to consider.

    • Rafa is just more affable guy. He’s good friends with Roger too. Their battles have in a way forced them to become friends. And their battles against Chokovic have made them even closer fendingnoff the third wheel to the greatest rivalry ever lol… Roger came to the opening of a Rafa’s academy. Where else will you see 2 living legends competing against each other still get together to do something like that for the kids? You don’t see Jordan and Isaiah Thomas doing work like that or Lebron and Kevin durant doing charity work. These two are just something special both on and off the court.

  5. Friends since their teen years, Andy surely knew he could count on Rafa to give him needed support, and offer any information he could. Nothing less would be expected from the Rafa we have come to know.

  6. A 6-4 6-1to victory for Rafa. Dimitrov certainly pushed Rafa in the first set but he problem, particularly on clay, for most players is to maintain the same high intensity for the whole match and Dimitrov just couldn’t do it. Four down and one to go Rafa! Vamos!

  7. Congratulations Rafa on your victory against Grigor , Number Eleven title at Monte Carlo is looming

Positive Characteristics: A Master number, the 11 is the most intuitive of all numbers. It is instinctual, charismatic, dynamic and capable when its sights are set on a concrete goal.

Sounds like the number 11 and Rafa have a lot in common.

  8. This is the sign of a true friendship and mutual respect that these two players have for one another. No one knows better than Rafa how to recover physically and psychologically from a serious injury and Andy Murray is wise to tap into that. We as fans appreciate just how great and inspirational Rafa is as a tennis player and human being and i suppose this will not be truly realised and acknowledged by the wider public until he hangs up his racquet.

  9. A genuinely wonderful human being, and I just love the true friendship you have with Andy , he’s a very lucky and privileged guy.
