Rafa on plying Khachanov:

Karen is a tough opponent, of course. No doubt about that. He’s a player that serves big and has big shots from the baseline. I need to play aggressive. I can’t let him play in comfortable positions because then it will be impossible… I know it’s going to be an important test for me.

Rafa owns a 2-0 lifetime record against the Russian and has won all five sets they have contested.

Rafa has won 14 consecutive matches vs. Russians since falling to Nikolay Davydenko in the SFs at 2011 Doha. He has reached the Monte-Carlo QFs or better 13 years in a row since losing in the 3R in his 2003 debut (l. to Coria).

Rafa must retain the Monte-Carlo title, which would represent his 31st Masters 1000 crown, to remain at No. 1 in the ATP Rankings. Otherwise his Swiss rival, Roger Federer, will return to the top spot on 23 April. Rafa is in his 170th week at No. 1, tying John McEnroe for the sixth-most weeks in rankings history (since August 1973).

  1. Khach sails a BHDTL long and Rafa breaks the 1st game this 2nd set. Khach was looking quite good at the beginning actually.

Really want to see Rafa shorten the points more and wrap this match asap. Khach seems to be playing better actually. A good showing Thiem is waiting and I suspect it’s not gonna be too straightforward.

    • Welcome back Rainier.

I’m betting on Rafa in SS vs Thiem. I don’t think he is ready to beat a fresh, hungry and healthy Rafa although, yes, Thiem may put up a good battle.

  3. Naughty, smart lob from Rafa. 30-love. Still can’t find 1st serve but Khach is also terrible at return 2nd serve.

1st set to Rafa after 43′. Average play from Rafa with some good showing in the beginning. Nothing spectacular from Khach as expected. Both players were serving poorly. Rafa upped his 1st serve a bit compared to yesterday but 2nd serve speed also dropped a bit. Still had to outrun his opponent by more than 10%.

  4. Rafa serving poorly at 53%. Still can’t find 1st serve on big points and was letting Khach dominate the front court on his serve in this 7th game. Khach breaks him with a terrible miss from Rafa. 3-4 Khach serves

  5. Too casual a smash from Rafa but he then fixes with a perfectly controlled volley to take it to ad on Khachanov’s serve.

2UEs from Rafa follow though and Khach survives. 2-4

  6. A less than sublime half volley to draw Khachanov to the net compensated by a perfect BHDTL pass. 30-love 3-1 Rafa. Vamos!

  7. Mom Ana Maria, sister Marbel, and girlfriend Mary were all seated together cheering for the King of Clay.

Rafa announced a contest; the winner will be flown to France to see him at Roland Garos. Details can be found at

  9. Djokovic is 7-6, 3-2 up against Thiem right now – Nadal must be shitting in his pants!

The real king is back ……..

    But as always, we’d see………………….

  10. Rafa your doing great and awesome! Pray that you may be always in good posture and health condition! Be strong in the Lord always and put your trust on Him! God bless you always! Go,go,go Rafa!

  11. Let us not focus on retaining Number 1 but on each match that Rafa plays. Started well so wishing that will continue . Tough top half of the draw and other side relatively easier. However we have faith in our great champion.
    Vamos Rafa 🍀

  12. Rafa you can be sooooooooo proud of yourself,

    Love and prayers,

  13. Rafa congrats in your win vamosssssssssssschamp this year is going to be the best for healthy love your fans for ever.🎾🎾🎾🎾👍👍👍👍🏸❤️😘❤️

  14. Note to Mary Carrillo. Rafa’s birthday is in June during French open, not August 8 as you broadcast today. Fake news!

    • JUNE 3rd, 1986 is our GOAT ‘s BIRTHDAY!!!!!! : )
Must share here Mary C is one reporter I have little respect for because she is bias with her subjective coverage of matches……..It is obvious from the first point with her and John M which player they decide to cover ….. Not sure why she gets theses gigs to cover important ATP & WTP matches….. Her analysis of tennis, both of live points or match histories, are rather poor ……IMHO she lacks basic TENNIS knowledge and she is right out BORING to listen to….. I never got the impression she was a great player either….she was BORING as a player as well… it is rather baffling what connections she must have with the administration that provides her with the job. Come to think of it, she also has rather poor sense of humor and laughs at inappropriate timings at her own jokes……….seen it …..heard it…..I always switch the stream to Spanish or other…..( I don’t speak Spanish…..) to be spared her boring coverage. Sorry to comment on her uneventful style….. but Tennis is so much fun and it takes away from the fun to be hearing her subjective, dull comments…..

  15. WOW-WEEEEE, even H.S.H Prince Albert II
was at the inauguration of the Rafael Nadal Suite, #1029. Pretty cool I say.
