Cincinnati R3: What time does Rafael Nadal play against Albert Ramos-Vinolas?

Due to bad weather, play has been cancelled. The play will take place on Friday as scheduled below. Rafa might have to play two matches if he wins in the afternoon.

A quarterfinal spot will be up for grabs when Rafael Nadal and Albert Ramos-Vinolas square off in Cincinnati on Friday. This match is a rematch of the Monte Carlo final, which Rafa won 6-1, 6-3.

Rafa on facing Ramos-Vinolas:

Tomorrow another tough match against, you know, against Albert. I know him very well. He knows me very well. Going to be a tough one. I hope to be ready to play well.

Rafa has won both previous meetings in straight sets against the fellow Spanish left-hander, in 2013-14 Barcelona and this year in Monte-Carlo.

GOOD LUCK & VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Margo: replying here to post below:
He found his groove after that clutch serving down 0/40, his game changed after that. It was like an injection of confidence.
Also I think the wind was bothering him.
He will need to play way better against Nick, obviously.

Re Nick’s hand gestures near his head–no, can’t really recall them. What nick does continuously is that shaking of his head, side to side,, when displeased with himself. He does it even when winning.
I warmed to him a bit earlier this year, now I’m cooling again. Big servers in general: blech. But with Nick, of course there’s so many other elements

  3. Well done Rafa! First job done! On to the next one. It’s going to be a tricky match, but you have the stamina, determination and heart to beat Kyrgios!

      • He was just getting into the groove. LOL Tonight he will be in the groove.

Do you know what the hand/finger gestures he does near his head means? I thought perhaps it meant getting the spectators to applaud but it doesn’t look like that.

  4. very clutch serving from rafa down 0/40, then he breaks
looks like he’s getting it together at last
been very shakey through on his FH, saving it with his serve

  5. If rafa gets through this match, I’m worried about him playing nick later as he’s younger and will probably be fresher as he’s already finished his match. Rafa though is very physically fit. We will have to wait and see.

  6. OLA OLA OLA & VAMOS DEAR RAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) 🙂 🙂 Beautiful Tennis sweetheart!!!!! Solid, classy lead 1 : 0 and such FANTASTIC SERVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) You are so good at TIE BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) : ) : ) 🙂 : ) : ) ci…..ci……ci……ci…..& ci…..: ) GO RAFA GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

  7. 1rst set way too close, ARV playing extremely well, Rafa not so much.
But Rafa rolled over him in the TB.
Do not want a tough match here, Rafa has to play Kyrgios later.
    Wat a day for him.

  8. I don’t understand why Rafa’s first match is not the first match of the day. Shouldn’t the winner be able to have a couple of more hours to recuperate for the second match in the evening?

    • By rules, Rafa is getting plenty more hours between matches than is required. I remember looking that up some time ago; I think he could have been playing with as little as from half an hour to one or two hours between matches. It is different between best of three and best of five. You can find the information online in the ATP rule book. My memory could be faulty as it’s been a while.

According to the information supplied by W&S, Rafa’s match will be second. The WTA has the first slot.

      • Margo, thanks for the info. It’s hard to imagine playing two back-to-back, potentially intensive matches with just an hour in between. Hopefully there won’t be any more delays today. Go Rafa!

      • You’re welcome.

Rafa has done it twice already. Monte Carlo and Barcelona. One of the matches was R3 vs Ramos, I believe. This can be checked for 2009 and 2013. Remember his FABULOUS 2013.

To be honest, I am more worried about his mind-set after the match was postponed having waited so long rather two matches in one day. From what I have read, the waiting is the most taxing and stressful.

  9. I hate that Rafa has to play two matches in one day, only fiar thing about it is so does his opponent–Kyrgios or Karlovic. The 2nd match will be a real danger match, but I can’t imagine Kyrgios having great energy for a second match, and Karl is 37 so not great for him either.

Then next day Rafa –if he gets through–likely faces Thiem in the semi. Rafa will more tired than Thiem and that worries me too.

  10. It’s unfortunate that Rafa’s match was a complete washout last night, but hey we can’t control the weather and it’s the same for all players concerned. If he keeps the points short to conserve energy, keeps a good length and serves well, he’ll be fine today. All the best for BOTH matches Rafa! 😀

  11. 23 yo Thiem has struggled since having a great clay court season – his last win at Cinci was close. Commies said he is yet to adapt to the hard court surface. 20 year old Zverev out early – tired after his recent success. Rafa reaches the AO final, dominates the entire clay court season and gets hammered if he fails to win a hard court tournament. He is neither allowed to be tired, old (in tennis years), and constantly expected to do the most difficult thing in tennis which is to adapt from clay onto other surfaces. If he doesn’t win expect it – this is the norm.

    • You need to update changes more quickly. What time EDT will Rafa play on Friday, August 18, 2017? You have not given us a new time. Match suspended due to rain. New time asap would be nice!

      • RNF can give you times as soon as they find out.

As a fan, I can only tell you what I was able to find out from @W&S:

Rafa is expected to play Albert no earlier than 13:00 local time on center court [after the WTA Kuznetzova match].

Later in the day he will go on to play the winner of the Kyrgios-Karlovic match no earlier than 21:00 local time [after the WTA Halep match].

  12. Ola sweetheart & the support and love goes for BARCELONA today and all the people in Spain.
    Have a great match sweetheart & keep going strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) Lots of love & happiness and vamos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) vamos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) vamos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

  13. Hearts and prayers go out to the people of Spain tonight after another senseless terrorist attack in Barcelona . Keep strong

    • My sentiments exactly Maria. So sad. Also looks like rafa’s match time is going to suffer from the rain delay. Will wait up a little longer but then have to hit the sack im afraid. Hope all is well with you and yours.

      • Thanja Maria. Was in Ireland last week when the Rogers cup was on, so missed that week of tennis but come back to find that rafa will ge no1 on monday. Must go away more often.

  14. The stars are aligning for Rafa. The win against Gasquet should boost his confidence and it’s going to be another good match-up for Rafa against Ramos-Vinolas tonight. Good luck and stay relaxed Rafa!

  15. ENHORABUENA!!!! Rafa das alegria en ls pistas..haces dl tenis un deporte bonito lindo lo embelleces…k Dios t d salud y fuerza para k t veamos mucho tiempo..

  16. Yes, he beat his junior friend Richard , 😀 the last time Richard had the upper hand was in Les Petits As de Tarbes France when they were both 13. They are just 2 weeks apart, June babies. I said Bravo Ramos, he sent away Muller who did not please us in Wimbledon. Other Spaniards doing well like Carreno and Ferrer, shame for Feli and Marc Lopez in the doubles. 😢Mannarino for France. 😊 Fiona Paris

    • Muller out, one less threat for Rafa, 😊Zverev too 😡he said he was not at his best, tired after his 2 recent atp successes 👑this young black American , a feather in his cap. 🎓

      • This young American is Francis Tiafoe. I am sure he must be thrilled about this feather; a win over a top ten. 🤗 Margo in NYC
