Those of you who accuse me of commenting only when Rafa loses are simply dead wrong. I have a long history of commenting after both wins and losses. But I don’t comment every day or after every match because I’m far too busy for that. Contrary to urban legend, I did NOT comment last Saturday/Sunday after Rafa lost to Tsonga in Shanghai. This Basel thread is the first time I’ve commented since well before that match. Review my comment history if you don’t believe me. As for my initial comment about Rafa’s overly cautious and timid style of play the last 2 years, it obviously struck a nerve with some of you. Sorry if the truth hurts. I’m not the only one saying it. Several TOP coaches and former players have said the same. Ignore them at your own peril.
Correction – I did comment last Monday/Tuesday, but NOT about the loss to Tsonga on Saturday, but about Rafa’s game in general.
Move in Rafa or Move on: Don’t refrain from your standpoint about the Rafa’s game. The fanatic fans and it seems Rafa himself have forgotten who the RAFA is and his capabilities. We cheer on a kid with his first steps to walk but we don’t keep cheering on him when he has learned to walk simply because we know the kid is capable of doing that and it is not a big deal anymore.

Haven’t commented recently as I have been recuperating from a shoulder replacement. However, I have been watching all your tournaments n praying ever so hard for you Rafael my boy. I believe you are right, Ashish. I am embarrassed to say that I have risen to their bait more than once, and immediately regretted it. They just irritate me. But, you are right. Ignoring them would bother them more since getting other fans upset seems to be their ONLY purpose. This idea they push of being “true Rafa fans” is simply horse manure.

I’m a far bigger Rafa fan than you’ll ever be. Real fans don’t applaud and cheer while their favorite player self-destructs. They do what I do. “Constructive criticism” and “tough love”. Google it.

Yet “real fans” also don’t conveniently disappear when Rafa plays well. Where were you when Rafa won three very impressive matches in Shanghai, two of which were against Top 10 players? When Rafa played one of the best return games of his entire career against Ivo Karlovic, did you applaud him for that? Did you applaud him for showing greater mental strength by winning tight some tight matches? Did you applaud him for getting to his first hard court final in over a year? Or did overlook all of that, and only criticise him for his losses to Nole and Jo Willy?…….
For a player who has struggled this year, Rafa isn’t going to win big tournaments over night. His return to top form is going to be gradual – so a final in Beijing and a semi final in Shanghai are fantastic results. Any objective fan would see that, instead of believing they know better about everything, criticising any person who dares to be positive in the process.
And finally, who are you to tell people what a true fan is? There is no written rule on how to support someone. If people want to be positive, let them. If people want to be negative all the time, that’s fine too. You, however, only make comments with the sole intention of baiting other posters with your condescending tone and constant trolling regarding Toni. everybody is entitled to express his/ her opinion here. being fan of Rafa doesn’t mean to say hooray for his losses. Rafa needs to bring some changes to his game regardless of what you and other fanatic fans think.
People here are not objecting to his opinion, we would all love to see Rafa improve, obviously, and no one is suggesting “cheering” losses. It is about the rudeness and disrespect. Case in point: “Brilliant strategy for a 10-year-old?”
We are suggesting that if that is what someone says about a champion who has been brutally honest about the past year and the improvements said champion is making, they might listen to said champion, rather than blathering on with the same stuff – and perhaps support someone or somewhere else.

Yet there’s nothing wrong with commenting on when Rafa wins either. The person we are discussing only ever seems to comment after Rafa loses a game, yet rarely ever applauds him when he plays well. Rafa had three fantastic wins in Shanghai, yet these get ignored.
It’s hard to believe that a 14-time slam winner like Rafa lets 78th-ranked Lukas Rosol bully him around the court like he’s an amateur every time they play. It should be the other way around. But it won’t be. Rafa will continue to loop & slice powder puff ground-strokes into the middle of the court, while Rosol swings away like it’s batting practice. Run Rafa run. And hope and pray that Rosol misses. Brilliant strategy. For a 10-year-old.

If I’m not mistaken Rafa has beaten him the last 2 times they played, so this notion of Rosol bullying him around the court “every time they play” is just more diarrhea pouring from your mouth, as usual.

Move out!!!! you are late of the news, Rosol just has beaten Rafa once when this last one was playing with a very bad knee and right after he had to be almost four months out of the court.
