Today’s Flashback Friday theme is dancing. Shy Rafael Nadal may not be much of a party animal, but he’s been known to bust a move or two on special occasions.
It was 2011 when Rafa finished the year with a victory over Juan Martin del Potro 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 7-6(0) at Seville’s Olympic Stadium to defeat Argentina and hand Spain their fifth Davis Cup title. On the wings of victory, he and his teammates went to a local club named Antique and danced long into the wee hours of the morning. Some said it was Rafa’s best performance off court. See for yourself!
That same year, Rafa showed off his dancing moves before the start of an exhibition in Bogota, Colombia where he played against Novak Djokovic.
Here is young Rafa singing La Bamba at the Roland Garros karaoke in 2007. Watch him groove to the music. He’s not bad, but we’re glad he stuck with tennis.
Surely there are more videos of Rafa dancing but here’s the video Shakira made starring Rafa. Admittedly, he’s not the one doing the dancing, but it’s a great video nonetheless, and Rafa seems to have enjoyed it.
So how about we celebrate Rafa’s victories with a dance and some fun? Happy Friday, and Vamos Rafa!
