The bet-at-home Open German Tennis Championships draw is out. Top seed Rafael Nadal will face fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the first round.
Seeds in Rafa’s half are Andreas Seppi (No.4), Pablo Cuevas (No.5), and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (No.7).
Seeds in the bottom half of the draw are Roberto Bautista Agut (No.3), Fabio Fognini (No.8), Juan Monaco (No.6), and Tommy Robredo (No.2).
“I’m playing here because I lost more matches in the past 6 months than in the past 10 years. My body asked for more matches,” Rafa said in a pre-tournament press conference.
Rafa won the Hamburg title in 2008, beating Roger Federer in the final.

Rafa will also compete in the doubles draw together with young countryman Jaume Munar. They will open their campaign against the Italian duo of Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli.

Ah, that tongue-in-cheek brutal honesty of our matador. Put on your Superman cape and make a few million fans smile once again. No prob, since with your luck in draws added to the lack of confidence and confusion as to why the ball is not doing what it’s supposed to when you hit it, you must start out by facing a countryman you owned who beat you last time and the #1 doubles team there, 1 of whom beat you twice…but you’re RAFA.
Tough first round but feel that he is ready . Good to see h play with his younger fellow countryman .
