Rafa has not lost to a player seeded as low as No. 14 today’s opponent at a Grand Slam since losing to No. 23 seed Robin Soderling in the round of 16 at 2009 Roland Garros. Nadal has won 20 of his last 21 matches against seeded players at the majors. His only defeat to a seeded player in that time came against No. 8 Wawrinka in the final at the 2014 Australian Open.

Anderson’s best Australian Open – and Grand Slam – performance is reaching the round of 16. He achieved that feat in Melbourne in 2013 and 2014, losing to Berdych on both occasions. He also reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros in 2013 and 2014, losing to Ferrer on both occasions, and at 2014 Wimbledon (l. Andy Murray). This is his 8th consecutive appearance at Melbourne Park and his 24th major overall.

  1. Rafa is very confident and Nick is not a threat I’m sure the clown Nick will be very tired now playing all those long matches and Rafa learnt how to play against him now, lightening does not strike twice at the same place ! and if he plays a next five setter with Seppi and win he’ll be very exhausted to handle Rafa if they meet next!

  2. It’s going to be a tough match for a rusty Rafa, but (all the same) I see him going through very, very narrowly. More like the Tim Symczek match. Having said that, my greatest fear down the line is Nick Kyrgios. He’s really in a killer mood especially in front of his home fans. I just pray Andreas Seppi knocks him out for good so that our beloved recuperating Rafa can reach the semis, at least. LET US ALL PRAY FOR RAFA THAT HE WINS AGAINST KEVIN AND THAT ANDREAS WILL BEAT NICK. Please let us pray hard, all true fans of Rafa.
