PHOTOS: Rafael Nadal beats Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Kazakhstan exhibition

Rafael Nadal defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, as part of a relaxed joke and humour-filled match in Kazakhstan. WELCOME BACK, RAFA! 🙂

Rafael Nadal“Every time when I come back after an injury I have an extra motivation. I’m set to work hard to gain my top form and to return to my level. I’m very happy to have an opportunity to play tennis — my favourite occupation.”

“I feel much better, I am in good shape. I am trying to forget the wrist. I am trying to get back into a rhythm but that takes time.”

“I will play in Beijing and Shanghai. My goal is to play and practice as much as possible and be ready for the end of the season.”

  1. Rafa seems to be very motivated – even more so than usual. I think he has a renewed sense of urgency and commitment regarding the rest of his career, knowing how quickly it can all come to an end due to a freak injury or illness. He’s been sidelined before with injuries, but always with knee problems that he had grown accustomed to. The wrist injury was a wake-up call because it came out of nowhere. It’s full steam ahead for Rafa from here on out. I expect to see GREAT things from him in the coming weeks. With a strong October & November – and a little luck – he could finish with the year-end #1 ranking again. VAMOS!!!

  2. He looked really fit – lean and healthy, and hit some outstanding shots, great placement and some backhands. Nice to see the smiles on the court during the game. A great way to get back into it, and Jo-Willy is always a good sport. So excited for the Asia matches online and then on to Paris and London live!

  3. WaHOO!! SooOOO Happy you’re back and well!! Now Mondo Rafa can be Happy + Smile again!! Hele On Rafa!! With Warmest Aloha from Maui!!

  4. Even though it was an exhibition match, so so happy that Rafa has won. Good luck to Beijing & Shanghai Rafa. Vamos Rafa!!
