Throwback Thursday: Rafael Nadal – Brilliant in Barcelona

Today marks the anniversary of the first of Rafael Nadal‘s eight titles at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. Rafa first lifted the 12-kilogram (26.45lb) trophy – one of the heaviest pieces of ATP World Tour silverware – on 24 April 2005.

Our champion has not lost since he made his Barcelona debut in 2003, when he was beaten by Alex Corretja, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.

Rafa has a 41-1 record in Barcelona, winning 40 consecutive matches and eight titles in the past nine years (did not play in 2010). During his 40-match winning streak he has lost just three sets, dropping the last one in the second set of the 2008 final against Ferrer. Since losing that set to Ferrer, Rafa has won 41 consecutive sets in Barcelona.

Simply the best! VAMOS RAFA!

  1. Rafa siempre pensado en que te vaya bienen cada juego, como todo dias buenos dias malos, pero siempre con esa furia y entusiasmo que nos demuestras, a seguir por mas tu puedes Rafa Nadal el No. 1

  2. RAFA…all the best play well play hard as you usually do, always with endless energy, chasing every ball and every point returning the impossible and always finding a way to win, you are still number one in the world of tennis, and I would love to see you beat Roger Federer’s Grandslam record of 17 wins……almost made it 14 at the Aussie Open, but there is still time to improve and get back to your ‘scintillating best’ before the French Open..
So Good luck and all your fans will be cheering you on………Vamos …..RAFA NADAL….
