Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal to reach the 2014 Australian Open final. His opponent will be Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.
This match promised to be the the first of the “final in a semifinal” of the 2014 season. There was much hype and talk leading up to the match about who would come through victorious, with Rafa’s blisters being a hindrance and Roger being in better shape than he had been last year. The first set was even, going to a tie breaker, with Rafa taking it at 7-6(4). The second set started with a brief MTO to adjust Rafa’s bandage. Rafa’s backhand and footwork was on point throughout the match, and he broke Roger in the second and third set to take both at 6-3, resulting in a straight sets victory and an improved H2H record of 23-11.
Congratulations, Rafa! One more win to make history! VAMOS!
